Hi all! sorry I have not been around for a rew days, tapering, so not much to report. Last week 22 miles in 3 run, this week only 6.5 in one run so far, race coming up Sunday, getting nervous.
Chuck your last post worked fine, and a late thank you for starting the thread.
Runjr, what a great race! Sounds like a tough course, wet grass uphill sounds like x-country, but 1:40-wow! 100 minutes is such a nice round number, I hope to get there by fall, but on a fast course (picking my spots). Congratulations to your family as well.
Wendy you are really doing a great job of piling on the miles, but take care of the foot, you don't want to be unable to race after all this hard work.
Spicegeek, I am sure you are ready to run strongly and break 2 hours because of all the cross training for strength and fitness. Besides, you have extra motivation (impress the trainer!) As I am also tapering I have had all kinds of phantom aches and pains, achilles, hip, both heels, now a cold. None of this really means anything, fortunately!
I guess Chamblin is on holiday in the lake district now, hope they are lucky with the weather.
Pedometer people, what a great idea. Confirms for me the health benefits are real, thats for sure. Wish I could get a discount.
Boston was a great event to watch on the internet- there was a local guy I was following with interest as I have "chatted" with him on Canadian running boards, and once in person at a race (he smoked me!) This is Rick Ball, age 43, an amputee athlete; he ran 3:01:50 for a new PB and record for one-legged runner. He only started distance running around the rtime I did in 2007. Also ver exciting to see the US elites do so well, I was hoping that brave Kara Goucher could get the win, what a battle for the last 2 miles, I had tears in my eyes watching.
Very proud to tell you all that next week I am to go to the senate chamber of the university where my son is taking pure mathematics as he is being recognised by the department for competing in the Putnam Math Competition last year. He ison the Dean's list and now seems verylikely to go on to amasters and doctorate, possibly with an academic scholarship to help with the cost. My dad and sister were both university professors, though in languages, so to someextent he is joining the "family firm"; DW and I are proud as could be!
Sorry this is mostly about me, best wishes to everyone! Simon.
