Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

hey yall

this morning i ran the 5k ive been looking forward to for a while.  our church organized it for the second year as a fund raiser for relay for life/american cancer society.  i was very excited because dh was racing with me for the first time in a long time.

i started out by the fast girls, and went way to fast for about a mile. that pretty much blew it for my pr and my race goal.  but, i did manage to keep up with and eventually out sprint my dh at the end by a couple of seconds! ha!  25:08 was my time, an 8:08 pace.  i won my AG, and the female masters winner was about 3 mins ahead of me so not much chance to win that one. the local running club was out in full force and lots of fast ppl were there! the male winner had just run boston this monday in around 3:15. he ran the 5k in under 20min, i dont remember the exact time.

it was a hot day, and we had lots going on, so i didnt run any more than about a mile beforehand to warm up.

hope all racers did well, and looks like a lot of great runs this weekend!

love to all

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

Hey All!

Any race is a great time, MissWendy!

Mine was great.  Second time I've run this one, so I knew the course. It was a warm day, but course was in shade.  Started fast also, but the start was down hill, so not too bad, except I knew I had to save some for the uphill since course was an out and back.  1st mile was under 7:30, second flat part was slower and last uphill was about same.  When I reached the 3 mile mark I saw the finish and shortly thereafter saw the clock reading 23 something.  I kicked and finished at 23:52.  WooHoo, another PR!

It was a small field, 236 runners, a lot of high school cross country kids, and some running clubs. Very nice venue.

Afterwards went to gym and did an hour of arms.

Eager to hear other race reports, guys!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

Happy Sat night everyone!  I managed to get another TM run in on Friday morning.  Did a Pilates class this morning and then played 9 holes of golf.  Tomorrow I'm scheduled to do a 12 mi run - longest ever!  I'm no longer freaky about the distance as much as I worry about my foot...  But, we'll see what happens!   I did send the foot imprints today for the custom orthotics.  Hoping I get them in time to break them in before the HM on 5/24.  I've got less than a month now before my race...

Runjr:  I run outside in Maine now (weather permitting) - in fact it was beautiful here today - about 70 and sunny!  But this week was traveling, so that's why I ran on the TM twice.  I think it's easier on my foot, too!  Nice job on the 20.3 miles!!

Wendy:  I wish I was confused with long distance runners...but sadly, I haven't lost any weight since ramping up my running.  I have followed the advice of several and not tried to "diet" while training for the HM.  But, I have found my hunger level has increased substantially - like, waking up in the middle of the night hungry which has NEVER happened to me.  I've tried to eat healthy but don't always succeed...seem to crave carbs and sometimes take the easy route with crackers or sugar.  Congrats on your race!  You many not have the PR, but you did win your AG!!!  Fine job!

Shelley:  I made your protein bars last week - they are delicious but are kind of gooey.  Are yours gooey?  I did substitute some ingredients, so I don't know if it's because of the ingredients I chose...  Have fun at your 5K!!

Jill:  very exciting that your race is coming up!!  Burning off some nervous energy can't be a bad thing....  How did your robot work out?  I switched to the Gymboss (from my Polar HRM) because the beep wasn't loud enough on the Polar...aging ears, I guess.  But, the Gymboss I can hear fine!  Funny about shorts with pockets!!  I just went to TJMaxx to buy some today - they're not easy to find (I don't like really short shorts...) but I did manage to get a pair.  As for all your STUFF...for future races, you could look into getting a belt to carry stuff - I use an amphipod which I can attach H2O bottles to and it has a little pouch.  I also have a slimmer one that has a built in storage space.  You might find some of these at the Expo.  I've heard some people talk about putting snacks in baggies and pinning them to your shirt so they're handy when you run...  Haven't tried it myself.

Spice:  good luck tomorrow!!!  We know you'll be awesome!  Very cool about meeting K Switzer...God love the women that broke barriers for us!

Runthe#s:  Funny about the upright balance issues!!  Great job on your PR!!  Well done!

Macd:  good news on the hip.  Building stamina in a week...hmmm, short slower runs might be a good way to build stamina and acclimate, but don't overdo it or you might tire yourself out!

I'll update tomorrow after my 12 miler...  Have a good evening!

Sue

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

Hi all, Nothing to report as I am working 12's all weekend. I thought I might try to run after work fri, but my legs and butt were  still so sore from my weight class on thurs, Fri at work made it worse with alot of lifting and hauling pipes across the building and up a ramp.Helping to move the maintenace shop. Even the young guys were whining today about sore glutes, so I don't feel so bad!:^0  So I did not run after work fri nite and tonight I am still sore and it's rainy out. But now that it's light out and warmer later. I intend to do a short run after work occasionally.

Jill- yeah, I think you need to buy new pants/shorts/capris  whatever you want for this half. You deserve it.:8}  I have  tied my car key to my shoe lace before because I did'nt have pockets. once I had a big huge arm band that held my phone, but it jiggled around so much and the velcro once scratched my arm and I did'nt notice it till I got home and had blood running down my arm!  So now I have a sports bra I wear that is lined and I cut a slit in it and slide my phone down in there nice and cozy, so I can listen to my music. I've seen alot of bicyling clothes with pockets, but running, not so many.

macd- hope your hip is feeling better by now.I think you'll get your stamina back quicker than you think.

runjr- 20.3 that is amazing!

misswendy-25.08 is a great time!! I'd be stoked!!

runthe#-congrats on the PR. That is a great time!!!

Good luck to all the racers tomorrow!!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

Evening gang!    It's that time of year again, yard work!

  • MissWendy - Wow, that was quite a crowd you raced with!    Congrats to winning your age group, you did really well!   How did the pre-race 4 miler go?  Do you think you could have done  better if you hadn't done it?

  • Runthenumbers - You did really well in your race too!   Sounds like you had some speedy peeps there too!  Congrats on the new PR!

  • Sue - Nice run yesterday and  good morning cross training too!  Good luck on your 12 miler tomorrow!

  • Megjmcc - Sounds like a tough work schedule!   BTW, you were talking to Jill about pockets and running clothes?  Both DW and I have a SPIBELT it works really well for carrying stuff around.

Great job on the race Miss Wendy!  You are MY HERO!!!!!!

OK, have a good night folks!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

Thx Joe, for having a better memory than me -- Spibelt is the skinny one I was trying to recall last night.  It works great!

Jill:  if you don't get it by the race, they may have a booth at the Expo the day before -- I saw them at the Jacksonville Marathon expo in Jan.

Good running all,

Sue
