John Brown's Farm~ Lake Placid

Hi i was just wondering if anyone known's more about the running trials that are through the woods on John Brown's farm in Lake placid. I have been wanting to run them but I know nothing about them or how long they are? I don't want to go in them and end up getting lost by myself or something crazy. So if anyone knows anything about them that would be great!

Re: John Brown's Farm~ Lake Placid
I just spent a week in LP and ran every day. what a great place to train. I have a friend with IronMan North America who lives part of every year in LP, and he showed me a couple of good places to run. He actually lives on John Brown's Farm but we didn't actually run there. the best place we went that seemed to have endless possibilities and pretty tough to get lost was the park that is situated on a peninsula into lake placid. you get there by simply driving behind the Howard Johnson's (one of just 3 remaining in business I believe), and taking a dirt road just a short distance into the woods to a good parking spot. you won't miss it. from there go through the gate and starting running. there is a great trail that leads along the lake and eventually hooks up with the road your car is parked on. you can do an easy hour of running back there...not much fear of getting lost as the peninsula is cut off by one of the main roads through LP.

Re: John Brown's Farm~ Lake Placid
ok, so I did a little research, and have a bit more to add. Apparently the trails at John Brown's Farm are supposed to be great for running. I don't know anything about it though...you may want to stop in and see the folks at High Peaks Cyclery in town. They were very helpful to us when we visited. the shop is full of triathletes so i'm sure there will be folks there who can give you advice on the trails. Finally, we did a great run up Mt Whitney Road, which is really close to town. it's at the north east end of Mirror Lake. It's a dirt road that goes for almost exactly 5K into some high end houses that actually sit on Lake Placid. it's a steady but fairly gentle climb all the way out, with really only one short (but a little steep) climb on the way back out. the surface of the road is perfect for running, and you will see very little traffic. we did the run twice and really enjoyed it. just enough work to make it feel great. There is a pull out for cars to park right at the start of the road where it meets the road that goes around mirror lake. Have fun.
