You know, the bad part about reaching your goal is you no longer give a crapp   I knew as soon as we started that I did NOT want to run and it was going to suck.  I can't stand to run in the heat, despite living in Texas.  I kept up with Jerry and Craig for the first two lightning fast miles and said, I think I'm going to walk the rest.  And I did.

It was freaking miserably hot, must have seen 4-5 people being loaded into ambulances.  Despite drinking a full 16-oz bottle of water/Cytomax between EACH water stop, my hands blew up like balloons.  I was half walking/half jogging the last few miles when I jogged right up onto Jimmy limping along with an injured leg, which gave me the perfect excuse to totally walk the last 2.5 miles, since he couldn't run if he wanted to.  We walked in.  I still beat my PW of 4:53, I think I finished in about 4:48, forgot to turn my watch off.

I saw Shawn on the last out-and-back and he was looking like a sub 4:00.  He had told me the heat didn't bother him, and he was right.  Nice job, Shawn!  So I'll see you in Boston... oh, that's right, you won't be there...

Just kidding, had to get one last rib in.  He ran great.  and even beat a 46-year-old woman in the process!   That is a seriously great time for today's race.

I'm happy.  I finished and I didn't give a rat's asss about my time today when I realized it was going to be 90 and blaring sun.  Ugh.  Remind me not to run marathons in hot weather.  Still the bling was nice and the aid stations were well-stocked and super.  No complaints about anything but the weather.  And the company has been the BEST!!

    Nita,

Glad to hear you got through it okay.  The conditions today are precisely the reason my racing season goes from October to February.     Enjoy the rest of the weekend.  Talk to you soon.

Chris, discretion is the better part of . . . well, valor is very close, at least something that you used today.

Jimmy, leg cramps, been there, done that, when it's all you can do to keep your legs moving.

Nita, you too, good job of knowing your limits and staying within them, even if it's no fun. I was watching the half-marathon finish for a few minutes and saw somebody go down right after the mat. They carried him away a couple minutes later. And that was just the half, and over two hours.

Lousy conditions and not what you were hoping for. Good job everyone regardless.

    Re: CMM tracking

Looks like my time was 2:38:50. Not a PW and surely not a PR. But done!

I was registered for the full and felt great until mile 8 or 9. Then the shade disappeared and so did my motivation. I made the right decision and finished with the half. The female marathon winner finished about the same time I did. Amazing.

The course was great, through neighborhoods the first 9 miles or so then ending up through a downtown area and into the stadium. The heat was rough but so were the hills. Worse than Atlanta in that they were long.

Thanks to everyone for at least trying to track us.

Dig deep, people, you can do it!

Congratulations on your finish, Karen. It was a tough day.  Interesting comment about the hills - I asked Craig how the hills compared after Atlanta. For whatever reason, the hills at CMM didn't bother me.

Congratulations to a tough bunch!  There will be better days, but not a better group!  It was good hearing from Jimmy AND hearing laughter in the car as he described the day.

    Re: CMM tracking

As hot as it was here today, I honestly don't know how I will handle running in the heat for some of the summer HM I have planned.  Maybe by then I will be used to it.  What can one do to lessen the effects of the heat?

After re-running both, I'd now call the hills at CMM and ING Georgia even. I felt them more in the heat this year. Karen ran the halfs. I agree with her comparison of the half courses from what I saw - ING GA's worst hills aren't in the half; many of CMM's hills are.
