    Re: Virtual walking team

I'd like to join this team as well.  I have a 5K to do on June 20th, but want to keep going and maybe find another one to do later in the summer.  I walk from home to work (a school) whenever the weather cooperates- I take the long way, which is about 20 minutes through the woods- a great way to start the day.  I have also been doing some of the workout routines from weightwatchers.  I try to do the Adcvanced Abs and Total Body Workouts at least 3 times a week each.  I have Wii Fit and used it through a lot of the winter, but have been doing more walkiung and les Wii Fit lately.  Did you determine that all we need to do is reply to this to be officially "signed up"?

    Hi Stephanie and team.

I'd like to join your virtual team. I've put in a year with Weight Watchers, lost 44 pounds  and will achieve "Lifetime" next Wednesday.  Woot! Woot!  Reaching my goal was sweet but going to the meetings without paying will be even sweeter.  Redding, CA, WW has wonderful leaders for weekly motivation but my personal commitment to exercising regularly all year has been key in my success.  I try not to be over-zealous at exercising because of a plethora of middle-age aches and pains, but i try to manage at least 3 times a week at aerobics, zumba, or yoga classes at the YMCA. biking on the beautiful Sacramento River Trail (paved and mostly flat), or walking in my neighborhood.  I'm not too worried about getting in shape for a 5K since i generally walk that far already on my walking days.  However, I found a race online that looks pretty fun at Mt. Shasta City on the 4th of July.  Besides the Fun Run/Walk with requisite T-shirt,  they have a downtown sidewalk sale, an assortment of entertainment, a quilt show, food sampling from local restaurants and a raffle with some very nice prizes including a new car, season's passes to the local ski area, tickets on the Mt. Shasta Dinner Train and other cool odds and ends donated by local merchants. We can't do fireworks for the 4th because of the extreme fire danger in drought stricken Northern California so a day of fun at a cooler higher altitude sounds good to me.

    sveltely,  barbara

Hey there group........I am down 2 lbs this week.  Can't get my walk in today as I will be working the jog-a-thon at the kids school.  I will try to get a few laps in myself.  I hope all have a great weekend and stay active.

    Staying active,

Thursday I walked one way (to the ferry) and racked up my 30 minutes on the Wii.  Today, no walking but I will Wii.  (I know.  Sounds funny, huh?  I meant to do that.)

Sooooo.... tell me about the Wii Fit.  I keep hearing that it's lots of fun and a good workout, but... my youngest son has just about every other gaming console ever produced except the Wii.  He leaves for college in the fall so my question is:  Do you think it's worth buying the unit JUST for exercising?  Do you get tired of it over time? (I tend to get bored with routines that are repetitive.)   Do you need much space to do the workout? (We don't have much space.)  It gets very hot here in the summer so I'm looking for alternatives when exercise options are reduced to swimming or mall-walking on days when i can't make it to a class at the Y.

    wiltingly, barbara

    Re: Virtual walking team

I love the Wii Fit.  I bought it months ago and used it a couple of times but never made a plan or commitment to use it.  This past week, I committed to it and did it, four out of the five days.  I'm going to continue that commitment.

As for getting tired of it, if you do, they're coming out with other games that can be used with the Wii and balance board.  EA Sports just came out with one, and Jillian Michaels has one out (but I've heard that one is disappointing).  There are a couple others as well.  Do some research.

On the other hand, if you have an XBox (regular or 360), you can get Yourself Fitness which is kind of like having a personal trainer.  It's a really good program, and I highly recommend that.

    Hope this all helps.

    Re: Virtual walking team

I didn't get to walk from the ferry to the office this morning because the ferry was just late enough that it would have been too much of a hustle for me.  I did walk for 30 minutes at lunch time and will take the 30-minute walk to the ferry after work.  I'm continuing my commitment to the Wii Fit this week as well, so I'll get that done after work.

    So far, so good.

    Re: Virtual walking team

Thanks, Karen.  i read several reviews on the Yourself!Fitness and bought a used copy on Amazon for $12.  Can't beat that!   I can see if i can be consistent about working out at home before making a huge investment.  I'd still like to try the Wii Fit because it looks fun... but I'll see if i can borrow the set-up first.

Walked my 2.5 miles this morning.  Did not get the Wii Fit in.  Mondays are tough.  Will get 30 minutes of Wii Fit every other day this week as well as my walk.  Hoping to be down more this week.  Go Team!!

I walked to the ferry (not from) yesterday and did 34 minutes on the Wii Fit.

Today I'll walk to the ferry (if it's not raining) and will do the Wii Fit for at least 30.
