Hey mango,

One Hour Runner is what I decided to do as well.  I am up to 48 minutes on my longest run.  I hope to hit an hour in the next few weeks.

Also, a quick weight update; I have lost 68 pounds.  I fell like a whole new person.  Only 32 pounds to go to hit 100!

Re: Woggers to Runners: C25K Grads

Hey Mango, Fred et all ....  I am still sick    My lungs have cleared up  a good bit, but the ear infection has really messed up my equilibrium. LOL.  I am hoping to resume running on Monday.  I did spend some time looking at "what next" for me, and I have narrowed it down to either of the podrunner 8K or 10K programs.  Which one I select is going to depend how things feel when I finally am able to get back to it!

PS: if anyone new is wondering what the heck a "Wogger" is, it was coined by someone in our March C25K thread we all felt it captured the essence of not quite walking not quite jogging.

runpandarun if you mean in the "results" section of your profile, you click on the search race results icon and find your race and claim your time.  (if your race has submitted results).

Re: Woggers to Runners: C25K Grads

Hey Mango.. Thanks for starting this thread. Hows your knee doing? BSQ sorry to hear about the ill-health. Get well soon. Hey Fred! Hey Runpandarun!

To everyone joining us.. I am about to finish the c25k tomorrow. I started running to improve my health and fitness with the goal of running a particular 5K race I wanted at the end. I did most of the c25k by time. Towards the last 8-9th weeks I started also paying attention to distance. I extended the program a few days so as to be able to run the 5K distance (although very very slowly).

Hope some of you c25K runners and members from our c25k group here join us in our post-c25k adventures in running! Some of us are following the one hour runner plan, others stuff from cool running, Hal Higdon and podrunners. We will try to update everyone here with our plans regularly.

Tomorrow will be my 1st race 5K run alongwith my graduation and I plan to have a great time! Will write back with a race report next week!

Happy running!

Re: Woggers to Runners: C25K Grads

mango....I do my weight loss goals in phases.  Phase 1 was to get down to 290.  Now Phase 2 is to get down 270 (which I am 4 pounds from right now).   My ultimate goal right now is 220.  Long way to go.  As for OHR, I did skip ahead, in fact that brings me to my run report.....

I ran a FULL HOUR today!  I couldn't believe it.  I mapped it on mapmyrun.com and it ended up being exactly 5 miles.  I do have quite a bit of muscle soreness right now, but it's worth it.

I just finished a walking program and I want to "upgrade" to running now.  It appears that most people here are measuring running in time and not miles...is that how I should begin?

Re: Woggers to Runners: C25K Grads

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all your good wishes! I had a great time at the race and now declare myself offically graduated from the c25K!!

I finished in a little less than 41 minutes. I guess the official times will be reported sometime soon. There was a great crowd and I really did not feel like I ran a whole lot or got too tired at all! Different people running or walking around me, people with strollers and wheelchairs and dogs or power-walkers walking faster than I can run, totally kept me occupied the whole time!! Haha Was great fun. Very nice crowd, loads of cheers, felt really really good. After the race, a shower, stretching and a huge breakfast, we went sight-seeing around the area. After last week's travel, tons of work and haywire hectic schedule (barely ran twice on a treadmill) I was glad to manage the run in 41 minutes. Next I am going to pick a race somewhere nearby and aim to reduce my 5K time to 35 or 30 minutes!

Nice job with the weight loss Fred! And looks like you are already a one hour runner!! Your 5K is coming up soon isn't it. All this running should make that seem really short and also help you speed up for it, I imagine!

Mango.. I agree that skipping ahead a little on the One Hour Runner should be ok. Just be cautious about not increasing total distance per week by more than 10% (which I read is a general rule of thumb to follow for injury free running.) I think you have pretty decent running-judgement by now already, whatever you feel you are up for must be ok. Good idea re-starting yoga! By the way, if you don't mind my asking (curiosity!), what was the verdict on the knee? What did u sprain/pull on it? and what did the doc suggest to fix it?

BSQ, hope you are doing better and will get back to running tomorrow. Let us know how it goes and also which program you choose!

sdcathey.. I agree with Mango.. most of us here did the couch to 5K (c25k) program on cool running. We thought it was great to get us up and running. I think the next most useful thing was this virtual running group. We report back on progress regularly. Keeps us accountable and on the go! Other than that I would suggest getting good running shoes fitted for yourself by people at your local running store (who do gait analysis etc) to make sure you don't have any issues with leg problems creeping up as you progress in the runs!

Happy running everyone!

Re: Woggers to Runners: C25K Grads

Hey everyone..

My plan for the next two weeks is as follows:

May 10 - May 23: maintain 3.1 miles 3 times a week. See if time improves on its own or approaches some steady state.

This is because so far I am very inconsistent with the 3.1 miles. Some days I can make it, some days I just can't. Some days it is slow. Some days my best so far - 40ish minutes. Hoping the next two weeks let me reach a repeatable consistency in the distance. Today's run was just terrible. I meant to run 3.1 but managed only 2.3 miles that too with one walking break. Guess still tired from last week. Didn't even feel like getting out there today. Will do better on Wednesday!

Hope you all are doing well! Cheerio!
