Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

Hi Jodi -

I'll be honest - I was PSYCHED to hear that you made it up to and including week 9 and were able to run for 20 minutes..straight! that's fantastic -  inspirational even!  There is no way i can do that today but hmmmm...9 weeks from now would be August-ish? I really hope so... am wondering how your W1D1 went....

Also - for yourself and anyone just starting that is reading this: do you plan to do the program 3 times in one week? Will anyone be doing more than that in week one? Is it breaking a couch potato law if I do do it more than 3 times in one week? Does anyone know the bigtime answer to that question? Or should i just stick to the plan 'as written'....just wonderin...i am used to walking almost every day and am wondering if i could maybe do the program daily OR maybe i should just alternate C25K one day and then just walking the other...of course i want to do everything yesterday...

Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

Hi! This is my first post on this site. Today I did day one of week 9 of the Couch 2 5k, and I was able to run a 5k in 32 minutes. Week one I was barely making the 60 second run! This program is incredible, I've never been able to run that long, even as a kid. I actually asked the same question and wanted to do it at least four times a week. Someone suggested to stick to the program to help avoid injuries and overuse. Your muscles and joints really do need those days of rest. I still work out on the days that i don't run, but its less stressfull movements. There are even times during the program, like when you start running for 8 and 10 minutes at a time, where you feel like you can go further, but don't. I've followed the program exactly and it delivered! Good luck, the nine weeks really fly by!

WHOA we are on a roll.  It seems we are all on week 1 so we can keep each other accountable.  Although IBmotivated I think your a day ahead of us.  So you can tell us it gets easier.

SassySandra did you get your run in today?

Hey ahnniewantstorun- I am wondering what does fwiw mean?  I am sooooo not computer lingual.  And as far as how many days I will run (or at least try) I am not sure I would be able to do more than 3 days a week.  Maybe but I will just have to see how my legs feel.  I have a pool so I can do laps in it if my legs feel like wet noodles.  Which I am sure they will

Oh and Hey Joe thanks for the web site www.run2r.com.  I like it.  I currently have some techno that I listen to.

I am in love with this Active web site.  It is full of useful information.

Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

Hey everyone, it sounds like we are all off to a great start.  I love reading all of the motivating posts from people who have done this before us.  I have been alternating my run days with the elliptical machine or bike riding. I read that it is good to give different muscle groups a rest.  I have also decided to make Monday's my "rest" day.  I will be running W1 D3 tomorrow... I am excited to finish week 1.

Maybe you all know this, but just in case you don't... There is is a really cool app for the iphone called C25K, it  is $1.99 and totally worth every penny. It is cool because you just click on the what ever workout you want to do and it tells you when to walk and when to run.  The part that I like is that you can still listen to your own music at the same time, I find that it is easier for me if I don't have to watch a clock.

Also, my cousin lent me a really good book called 'running for mortals'  by, John Bingham.  It's got some really good info in it and it is a pretty quick read.

Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

Hey Killiansgal,

Because of what Jeanyus shared, I plan on sticking to the program of the 3 prescribed C25k runs per week; I plan on alternating that with my usual walk...and i do other exercise type stuff - some yoga, fitness ball pilates type things...

fwiw = for what it's worth...

and so fwiw, i also have dogs - 3 to be exact...re running with them....one is a 10 year old big boxer boy and i don't ask any more from him than around the block which is 6/10 of a mile - that is as far as that dear old boy can go...then i have a one yr old aussie/cocker mix - he is cute but he has short stubby legs and i can't picture that little boy running for miles...and last, i have a 2 yr old white pit mix - she is a possible contender except for one thing - she has wicked ADHD - ok, that or a really good nose. We can be moving along taking a normal walk and whoosh - she catches a scent and thinks nothing of making a lightning quick turn, zipping across my path and crossing in front of me at breakneck speed so that it is all i can do to catch myself and not break my neck falling....so until she gets it under control and takes a chill pill I cannot take her without risking a 'diving flat on my face' injury....so it's just me and my ipod when i run...and again, fwiw, i was checking out marathons around the globe - not getting TOO far ahead of myself, am I, lol - anyway, so i am reading re this great marathon in Ireland called the Connemarathon - i thought it WAS great til i read the part where it says that you can't run with an ipod...for safety reasons....safety schmafety i say...ok - just kidding...i wonder how many marathons don't allow ipods - i have a feeling i don't want to know...

I am looking forward to hearing how everyone is doing on their runs....

Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

ahha new lingo I love it  or maybe its old lingo and I just need to get with the program

so fwiw....this is the first forum that I have been in that actually promotes the use of ipods or other listening devices.  When I lived in GA I tried a couple of groups that strongly discouraged the use of music.  But I rather like the music, I can't hear myself breathe.  If I hear myself breathing hard I think good grief I am going to pass out or at least it sounds that way.  If I thought I was going to pass out I would stop trust me.

Biscuit isn't into sniffing yet, maybe chasing squirrels.  He gets out of my car and does not believe in a warm up.:^0

Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

Well it has started, after walking the 5k at the columbus race for the cure I signed up to run a 5k July 25th. Today began the c25k I'm feeling pretty good as of right now. I completed W1D1 1.43 miles. I havebegun training on the treadmill for no other reason than for ease of keeping track of the system. I walked at 3mph and jogged at 5mph. I'd like to have covered more ground, I'm hoping that as I get into this the speeds will adjust accordingly?

Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

I did w1d1 yesterday on the teadmill (TM). Did 1.77 miles, which I was pleasantly surprised at. I was walking at a 3.5 speed and running anywhere between 5.0-5.6.

For those of us who don't feel like we can do it, or are overwhelmed....

I've done the C25K program about 4 times, and I've gotten to week 9 each time. At one time I was even going for the longer one Hour Runner program after I completed C25K, but was sidelined by asthma and then pregnancy. You can do it, it is possible!

Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

Hi guys. I am starting the C25K tomorrow (june 3) myself. It will definitely help to have some support, as I've NEVER been a runner. I'm doing this run in September for a good cause so tha has me motivated and ready to take on what I feel like will be one of the biggest feats of my life so far. Looking forward to soaring!

Re: C25K, starting tomorrow.

Hello everyone!

I am going to be starting the program tomorrow, June 3.  I've always wanted to get into running and this program seems perfect to ease me into it.  I'm out of shape so hopefully I will finish tomorrow.  I'm planning on running on a treadmill, so what walking and jogging speed do you guys recommend?

Also, I'm starting this program to get into shape (it'll be nice to able to walk up a couple flights of stairs without getting out of breath) but also to lose weight.  Do people generally lose weight with this program?

By the way, kitapope, I'm in Atlanta too!

Thanks
