Good Morning Runners! Just checking in to see how you are all doing. To be honest, I'm not sure what program you are following, but I'm guessing it's some sort of "Couch to 5K" type of thing. If so, don't let the bad days get to you. They are inevitable, and simply a part of the process as your body rebels, whines, complains, and generally throws hissy-fits to let you know it's not used to what you are asking it to do. It WILL get better. Sure, there are bumps in the road, but you just have to accept that the road of life has it's bumps. Each person deals with them in their own way. Some attack, some fall back and regroup, and some just keep plodding along with dogged determination. What you are looking for is the horizon, that part of the road that seems so far away it's no more than a faint mirage. Trust me, it's there, waiting for you.
I've been there, right where you are now. It can seem overwhelming at times, but don't give in. Take a day off if you need to, and don't berate yourself for "failing" if your body says it just needs a bit more time to accomplish what others seem to do without breaking a sweat. You are all different, each person has their own life story, and each person has their own physical abilities, limitations, and mental barriers to overcome.
There are no hard and fast rules to training. A training program is written as a "guide", not the "end all, be all" of what you must accomplish within a specific time. Trying to keep up with something your body isn't ready for is a sure recipe for injury. Follow your heart, listen to your body. and just keep plugging away at your own pace. You WILL get there. You've got a great group of folks here, and having that support is every bit as helpful as having someone to run by your side every day. But in the end, it's what is inside YOU that makes you take that next step, and the one after that, and the one after that...
I've come up with many different motivational mantras over the years for myself. Sometimes it's a person, sometimes it's a certain goal, sometimes it's just getting mad at the stresses in my life and beating the crap out of them by running them into the ground and stomping on them with my running shoes until they are gone from my day (try it, it works!) And sometimes, it's as simple as the following sentence: "How bad do you want it?"
Only you can answer that question for yourself.
