Not sure how nice that will turn out, finished W4D3 today. Man it was still tough, My garmin forerunner came in, heart rate was through the roof, and man does this thing track everything. The webbased one is much more limited then the one at my house, but here is the actual stats for the run. Web based one only shows max speed, but the one at the house tracks minimum speed every step of the way. Im considering repeating a day or two of week 4, not sure yet though.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

I wish I ran it at 10.2. As i said before, that was my max speed recorded, i remembered on the treadmill and tried to speed up.. boy was that a mistake! I slowed right back down.... my average run if i remember from the house was 6, while 3 - 4 was my fast walk... which averaged out to 5.2mph or 5.3mph for the whole run. So, no the 10 was almost a sprint, and didnt last long... average run was around 6 but ill have exacts when i get home later and open up the training center. Don't feel discouraged, I felt like i was dying after that 10mph! lol

*just checked the gps unit, i averaged 6mph on the lap 2 (5 minute run part 1). Max was 10.2.. but didnt last long.*

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

snipey, glad you clarified that. I was looking at those stats, and thinking to myself: this guy is doing a C25K training course, and throwing in a sub-6 minute paced 1/2 mile run in the middle of a 2-mile workout???? Something's gunna give, and it's gunna give in a big way.

A sub-6 face-plant is nothing to sneeze at. I've BTDT, stepped in a gopher hole while dodging some tourists who refused to move while "walking" as a group down a runner's pathway.  The result, a severely twisted ankle, some skin loss on shoulders, elbows, and assorted other body parts, and a whole string of words those tourists never thought to hear on their trip to America.

Be careful on that treadmill at those speeds, that surface can be very abrasive to human tissues not covered in shoe leather.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

I DID IT!  I pushed through the pain and discomfort and did it...ok, I stopped a tad bit short but come on...considering my terrible performance the past 1.5 weeks I'm proud of myself.  My shins started burning and I was ready to give up, my body said NO......But then a certain quote came to mind, "HOW BAD DO YOU WANT THIS?"  I want it BAD!  How Bad?  I want this REALLY BAD!  So I kept pushing through the pain and am SO GLAD I DID!  I was in less pain after I pushed through than when I felt like giving up.

But as a precaution I am icing my shins right now but I'm so glad that I kept going.  I just realized that I did 1.83 miles this morning!  WHOA!  I guess I'm not doing too bad am I?  Plus I did 3/4 of a mile tonight!  WoW!  Maybe I'll take tomorrow off, I was going to run tomorrow night and walk in the morning....either way I'll listen to my body.

Thanks for RunswithWhales quote Blue!  How bad do you want it people?

WTGO ANJI!!!!  I trust you know better than to push too hard.    I'm very proud of you.

Snipey --  Those charts are mighty impressive.  A bit over my head and a tad overwhelming, but impressive.     No wonder hubby puffy hearts his Garmin so much.  TOTALLLY something he'd get into.  Well... I hope it's  helping you reach your goals.   I think I'll be doing well just to get a HR monitor and hang onto my stop watch.  HA!  Thanks for sharing your progress Snipey.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

Anij, good on you for seeing it through. Walk proud, you earned it.

A word of advice, though.... when icing a muscle after a workout, put the ice in a plastic bag and add some water. This keeps the ice from coming in direct contact with your skin-- that's too cold. Plus, the water in the bag lets the bag conform to the curves of your body and spread the cooling affects around, instead of only the points where the ice makes direct contact with your skin.

Wait until you get into marathon training, and take your first ice bath. Nothing gets your attention like dumping 60 lbs. of crushed ice into a bathtub, adding enough cold water to cover your legs, and then sitting down in the tub with your legs stretched out. It's an experience to which the written word cannot do justice.

LOL!  I can not even imagine the ice bath!  UGH!  Oh good gracious that sounds horrible!  Of course I've gone swimming in November in 30* water so I can imgaine it a little bit.  I'll remember the advice about the ice and water in a bag.  I usually wet a rag as a barrier and use a flexible ice pack from when I had therapy.  I am not even going to think about running a marathon till I get through a 5K and then a 10K and etc etc etc!  But I do love this feeling of having pushed through that and feeling awesome on the other side!  Bet I'll be hobbling in the morning though!

Anij- AWESOME JOB!! I'm SO happy you were able to push through. We really don't give our bodies enough credit sometimes do we? I totally didn't think I would be able to complete the workout after my little meltdown on monday, but it really went well. It sounds like you had the same experience. Isn't it amazing how when we respect our bodies, treat them right with diet and excersize, how they end up rewarding us in this way? I haven't really noticed any weight loss myself yet, but I've notced a big improvement in my breathing, which makes me very happy. Yes, I'd like to fit into my skinny jeans, but being able to run around and play with my dog and climb flights of stairs without panting is a HUGE reward in itself. I'm glad you were able to finish today, you should be very, very proud of yourself!

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

Hi all--

I'm in week 2 of the C25K program and was hoping to join this group--it seems so supportive and a great way to keep motivated!

I have started running as a complementary training to my figure skating training since I let myself get out of shape at grad school.  I have to admit, I don't particularly enjoy running but I enjoy the results so I keep doing it!

I look forward to running with you!

Wow, looks like everyone's been doing a fab job. I'm just about to step out for my W3D1. Every time I run, I'm reminded of how lucky I am to have 'run' into this group. Without it, I don't think I would have reached this far.
