Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

Good for you, TDK, for sticking to your guns!  It's wonderful to hear how much you love running.  Just please, please be careful of your ankle.  I would hate for you to overdo it, injure yourself, and be out of commission.  I know you're excited to keep running, but taking a week to rest now is nothing compared to having to take several months out due to an injury.  Rest days are just as important as running days!  The thing I really like about the C25K program is that is ramps you up gradually.  I know we've all been talking about ignoring the program and just running lately, and while that is certainly wonderful, it's important that we don't push ourselves too far.  The mind can be in the right place, but it may take a little longer for the body to get there!  The goal of this program is to develop muscle and bone strength, which can be a slow process.  Don't worry, though - our bodies will catch up to our minds soon!

I haven't had any pain/injuries myself yet (knock on asphalt), so I can't get you any advice and how to keep your ankle healthy.  I'm sure someone in here has learned some tricks of the trade, though.  Good luck!!!

Well, w3d2 is done, and I feel good. I honestly thought it would be my breathing that would slow me down, but the only problem I'm having (and it's minor) is a little soreness in my shins! I ran on the treadmill again, it makes it easy to fit in a run between classes. I just go to the student center then shower after. I must say I'm getting spoiled by the air conditioning...but I keep telling myself that since I'm moving to Rochester NY soon that it will actually be that cold anyway and I better get used to it! Today my WTF?? moment came after my run, in the shower. I couldn't figure out how to use it! I know, it's shower right? What's so complicated? But I ended up burning off the sweat with hot water until I figured it out- then I couldn't open the little bottle of shampoo I brought...grrr....but I can deal with shower misshaps if it means my run went well! I'm so glad to hear how everyone's doing! We're all hanging in there and getting this done- I'm proud of all of us!

I thought the same thing!!   Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm resting my weary bones today.  Tomorrow we will all be out running again and posting away.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

I had the best of intentions this morning, despite waking up with a migraine.

I went to the rink to get in my ice time, but I found myself to be off balance and off timing due to the migraine.  Also, I'm breaking in a new pair of skates and they cut my ankles a bit.  After fixing up my ankles, I decided I should stop fighting the migraine and just lie down.

I usually do my run after my ice time, but today I fought the headache and the headache won.  It has been a day where I've been really clumsy, so to avoid hurting myself, I am just going to chill out, let the Excedrin do its job, and not run.

Since I ran yesterday, I am going to chalk this up as a rest day.  For the next three days I'm going to not skate so my ankles can heal up a bit, so I'll be able to easily get my running in over that time.  This is good because I need the endurance for a skating audition I have coming up next weekend and nothing has increased my endurance quite like running.  I feel good that if I have to be off the ice for a few days, at least I'll be able to run.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

I woke up feeling like a million and decided that I needed the rest day and didn't run (since I did so good yesterday) but as a family we took the dogs for a 2.5 mile walk to get ice cream (who needs dinner!).  Ahhhh!  I love summer in Michigan!  Perfect weather, perfect temp, smelled amazing, and ice cream instead of dinner!  Oh and we got some exercise too!

Ohh!  My running skirt should be here tomorrow!  YAY!  I might have to wait and do my run on Sat. morning just so I can wear my running skirt!  Come on ladies, look cute while sweating like a pig is nice!  We have to offset that ickiness somehow!

Have a great night, hope you all are feeling better and better!

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

I'm headed out to run week 2, day 2 in about 20 minutes after one hairball day at work.

Funny to be tired but still wanting to run it out... I'll post later tonight after the day has settled down some.

RachRob - I'm happy to hear that your run went well.  LOL and hopefully you'll get the hang of the shower!!

Today I went to a local running store to treat myself to some shiny new running shoes.  I was starting to feel a little pain in my right calf and I decided running is too important to me right now for injuries, so I needed to get myself good, supportive running shoes.  The staff at the store was SOOO nice and helpful and they let me (actually encourage me to) take the shoes for a jog around the block before settling on a pair.  I got Nikes so now I have to option of, at some point, using Nike+ to track my runs if I decide to.  I was so excited to wear them tomorrow for W3D3, but it's supposed to be pouring alllll day so I'm probably going to have to wear my old shoes

I'll get back to you all tomorrow after my run and let you know how it went!

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES... Week 3: Jun 1 - 7

Week 2, day 2 was the best part of my day, the quietest time in my head, the only stretch where my monkey mind quit spinning its wheels on this, that and the other. It was a good run, though I was a little irritated that I kept kicking bark dust into the backs of my own socks and shoes. I also had a little bit of numbness in my third and fourth right toes. I see new shoes in my future, but I don't want to jinx anything. Is it bad to tough it out with my old shoes until I make it through week 4?

I am a full time high school teacher and mom to one- and two-year-old boys, just 14 months apart (ahem). Two kids in less than two years and all that goes along with it and the return to work -- I've continued my I-can-eat-anything pregnancy habits and an I'm-too-tired/busy/scattered hiatus from exercise. The result is I was carrying 30 extra pounds post-one-year-old, on top of 35 pounds I should have lost before I got pregnant. My body, while amazing in its ability to bear and nurture children, has been feeling foreign and unhealthy. It's been about a month since I made some eating habit changes and almost two weeks now of c25k, and I'm glad to report that some of the weight seems to be coming off. I am amazed again that my body can do this, and I hope to wrench it back into some kind of healthy, recognizable shape. This forum is such an inspiration.

Hope all is well with all.

Good evening Team WTF,

Sorry about my absence, like others, my job has been demanding lately.  I have finally caught up with the post and have been lmao and be very proud of so many "runners".  It might be a little premature with that title be its what we are striving for.  Tomorrow, I too will be W3D3 and I am excited about getting out in the cool morning and forgetting the previous stress.  Just letting the mind go and concentrate on running.  I am wondering if anyone who runs first thing in the morning has figured out what to eat the night before?  I am watching calorie intake ( weight loss is my goal ) so don't want to eat alot before bed.  You guys are kicking  ***phalt in you motivation and determination and I am proud to be apart of this team!  Good Luck

Wow! It just took me half an hour to read all of your posts since the last time I looked in. Everyone's spirits are amazing. Too bad we can't bottle these "I Will Do This!" attitudes and sell them. We would make a fortune.!http://community.active.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif!

I, too, pinky swear to not give up! To echo the sentiments of others, let's all be sure to stay commited to the group and to progress! Yet, let's also be sure to play it safe and progress at the pace that is right for each of us individually!!

My last post was Monday after W2D1 run. I got out late in the day for that one. Wednesday was D2 and I was back to my morning routine. The run went well but I have been feeling that run in my knees ever since. I got home and needed to ice them. They still feel weird. I should be heading out again in the morning but I am slightly concerned about how it will affect the knees. Will have to decide in the morning if they are feeling up to it. If they need another day of rest, that is what they will get!
