Simon, talk away, please. I enjoy it, as I'm sure others here do as well. The thought I had when running past the empty car dealerships was about our economy as well.
Ribs, that sounds like an enjoyable 9 mile day.
Fred, thanks for posting that link to past coolrunning posts (with Tinman and others). An interesting discussion. In my 20s and 30s it was all seat-of-the-pants training for me. I didn't read up (no Internet then) on various training strategies-I did incorporate interval workouts and LSD. It was a little bit of everything, I think, done out of ignorance, really, whatever felt right. I don't think I trained for speed as well as I could have. I didn't measure my heart rate, for instance, at least not while running (only after I finished). Food for thought-now, I'm thinking of looking up some of these folks.
4 miles yestersday, easy, at work at noon along city streets (the quiet ones, in an industrial area). So, 18.3 miles so far this week. I felt OK--I'm not pushing it, and intentionally going slower than I could run. I want to feel comfortable at a certain mileage per week before I run faster on daily runs. I might do a speed session tomorrow at the track, or a 7-8 mile run instead. This whole week I've had to run at work to save time in the afternoons to do some things at home, which necessarily cuts short the runs. I took a rest day today and walked three miles.
Good evening all.
