30 mile run

This weekend im going to do a 30 mile run. I have done a max of 20 so far and it wasnt that bad. I average 60 miles a week so i do not see any problems. It is all on the road though, there are no trails where i live. I have a camel back and  i am going to take GU gel. But i will have to stop twice to refill my camel back. I run 10 min miles when i go over 15 miles so i figure it will take me between 5 and 5 1/2 hours. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions?

Do you have room in the camelbak for a banana?? Potassium seems to shrug off cramps/diarrhea pretty well, plus you get a boost of energy.

I too run with various sized camelbaks over various distances, they are a lifesaver.

Re: 30 mile run

I would say you might need more than just one GU... For a training run of 20 I usually need two of them, and for anything longer I usually take extra just in case. Also, I run with a camelbak too. How big is yours? Mine is two liters and at the end of anything longer than twenty I'm usually out of H20 (or it is warm and undrinkable). I think it's smart to probably fill up along the way. Otherwise, good luck!

Too bad beer doesn't hydrate, or I'd put some Old Rasputin in my Camelbak.

I want to get a 30 miler under my belt one day, I love the sound of that.  The most I've done is 26.5.

Re: 30 mile run

Hick1234, that is about my weight and body fat % on my last marathon 5 years ago.  I got a ways to go to get back down there, slowly but surely.

Wow!  That is awesome.  Keep up that kind of mileage and it will happen.  I do the gym once or twice a week as the mileage increases it is only once a week though.

Re: 30 mile run

You are doing incredibly well! I love learning of inspirational personal stories such as your own. Thanks for sharing with us and congrats on taking down the 30-mile distance. I run and race those kind of distances regularly and with work and life, it does leave little time to "hit the gym" so I do all kinds of body-weight exercises to stay strong, plus maintaining the muscle helps burn fat too. Check out this link to videos we've put together on functional body weight exercises that you can do anywhere: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=ACTIVEdotCOM&view=videos Keep up the great work!
