Get a tri-suit!  You can get a one piece or two piece, which will have a separate top and bottom.  Either way, they are basically like bathing suits with a small chamois (pad) in the bottom which will give some comfort on the bike ride.

i'm a dude but wear what you are going race in for the bike/run. a trisuit is a good bet cause bike shorts are not designed to be run and can cause chaffing in sensitive parts and will feel like a soggy diaper on the run :(.  if it's a short race you maybe able to get away w/ just a swimsuit/jogging bra combo but the bike may be a little hard on your butt

I agree w/the other replies - as a woman I wear a sports bra, then a tank top w/the racer back and tri shorts - I like having two pieces versus the one piece (in case I have to relieve myself) but my husband just went to the one piece and loves it.  Make sure you swim in it under your wet suit and get out of the water and either bike or run to realize how it will chafe (or not) when wet.  Do not use bike shorts!  Good luck!

Don't fret - this is a really common question! As mentioned in the above responses your options include:

    - swim in basic swimsuit + sports bra -- wear this entire race, or throw on shorts/bike shorts/running skirt for the bike/run

    - swim in tri suit - 1 or 2 piece, & wear this for entire race, sometimes need additional support of sports bra underneath

    - swim in spandex/sports bra & throw on a bike jersey for bike/run

    - swim in any of above with wetsuit on top & then peel out in T1

& as suggested, try these combinations out in advance & then have a great race!

    Re: Ladies....help!!!

Last Sunday, in a sprint tri that started in a lake, under my wetsuit, I wore a non-padded pair of UnderArmour compression shorts, not the super short ones though, they were mid-thigh, with nothing under them, and a sleeveless tri top with a built-in shelf bra, which I wore on the 14-mile bike ride and then the 5K run, and I was fine.  Water temp was like low to mid 60s, air temp low 70s.  A friend wore for the first time a one-piecer under her wetsuit, and the one-piecer's middle seam chaffed and cut her badly, so be careful of that if you wear a one-piecer.

ok. lets take it from the top

how long is the swim and what are the water temps like?

how long is the bike portion?

what is your goal for this race?

what is your plan for the run? have you tried running in the bike shorts? somet brands/models are ok to run other times it hurts.

Forgot to mention --- check your behind! Your swimsuit, shorts, trisuit may look normal but actually be see-through... this happens a lot... http://ironmakeover.blogspot.com/2009/03/my-swimsuit-was-see-through-things-i.html

for a half mile swim in cold water i'd keep the wetsuit it's worth the time lost in transition

you can put on your bike shorts in transition over your swimsuit - but putting on dry clothes on a wetbody is harder than it sounds.

OR wear the bike shorts under the wetsuit. if you go this route try a swim/run workout in this outfit first and see if is a good option but be careful

OR find a trisuit to wear under the wetsuit
