Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Welome all!

Starting week 2 today and not too excited since i have an awful sunburn on shoulders and across my back! My bra is killing me today! So the jog sessions and even walking could prove interesting tonight! Still on treadmill for week 2.

I am currently a rehab counselor assistant in a state office. I plan to start a program for Certified occupational therapist aide this fall since my psych degree has not really gotten me far!

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

I would love to join you as well. I just completed d1w3. I have been on a weight loss program since January 1 and suprisingly I have been sticking to it. I have lost 16 pounds and 12 inches so far. I needed to do something that would take me to the next level as walking wasn't cutting it anymore.  I used to run in high school. I turn 35 in August and would like to complete a 5k near my birthday. I actually have been enjoying the time I have spent running.  It is a great way to keep my mind off personal issues. I am finding that it is a mind game and I am strong. I wanted to quit last night but I was able to push through and then do an extra full set of running and walking.

I must say that I think the hardest part is making yourself get out and do it. Once I am done with a workout, I am energized and ready to go again...pretty scary especially since I was having trouble just walking a mile in the begining.

I would like to start the couch potato to 5k plan. It's always easier to do something like this with a partner. Where are you located?

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Industrial equipment sales/marketing manager located in Michigan. Married with two children - one college grad working (still living at home) and another in graduate school.

My wife in my inspiration in this.  Four or five years ago she started walking.  Then a few years ago she started doing treadmill and elipitical work and ran in a 5K with my daughter.  So, I finally got motivated after my walking to start the jogging.   The 5K is not necessarily a goal of mine, I just want to obtain some semblance of fitness and lose some weight.  The weight loss is my goal and not hurting myself in the process.  My knee pain and shin splints from my distant past are not something I want to experience again.

Tomorrow AM is W1D2, Looking forward to it.   BTW, bought Brooks Adrenaline GTS9 - overpronation support - after analyzed by the local running shop owner.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Hi everyone!  I am 48 y.o. homemaker and need to lose about 70 pounds.  I began the c25k program tonight on the treadmill.  I started c25k in 2002, but never finished it (although I did lose 60 pounds back then - unfortunately, the weight found me again).  It is soooo much easier to do it with the music podcast to cue me when to walk or run.

I live in the Pittsburgh, PA area, in case anyone else out there lives nearby...

It's really nice to have the support of a group.  Thanks for starting the thread nkmk!

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Hi there,

I'm ready to join or start a 5k group. I live in Roseville, CA for anyone interested in my city to walk/run 3-4 times a week. I am just starting out and it takes me 45 minutes to do 3 miles right now with walking and running. I have sort of given up too because I need alittle more support to help me and me help someone else get motivated. I have done two 5k's and my goal is to run one mile in 8-10 minutes straight.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Reside in Ann Arbor area.  Just finished W1D2.   Raining when started, but still went anyway.   A cup of yogurt, a nylon shell, and off I went.  Rain stopped about 1/2 way through.

It was easier today then Monday.  Notice I covered more distance.   A little ache in the right glute.  We'll see how we feel tomorrow.

Go get it everyone!  But remember, don't overdo it.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Hi, I am an academic librarian in Alabama. I did not get started on C25K last night, but plan to start today. It is supposed to hit three digit temps soon  Has anyone used the fabric ties with the water absorbing crystals around their neck?

.I did Wii Fit last night-I unlocked the long distance run, and advanced step aerobics at least.. I think I know where my Creative Zen mp3 player's armband is so I can take podcasts with me-I have resisted iPods so far, but have a Shuffle on order, after seeing how tiny they were clipped to runners's clothing.

I'm a Human Resource Administrator for an IT Outsourcing company.

So, today (tonight) is W1D2 ... this time I am taking it to the gym since it is my weights day, so I will do the run on the treadmill as my warm up.  I hope I don't alarm people with my heavy breathing! Lol!

Keep on at it guys!

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

FattyMcButterpants My hubby is a SAHD as well to my 7 year old daughter and we are hoping another baby sometime in next year or so! We get so sick of people asking when he will work! I bet you get it a lot too huh? Such a stigma for SAHD's yet it is perfectly ok for the woman to stay home!

Mel- I am in Muskegon so not far at all! My daughter is 7 too I am hoping to take part in the Meals on Wheels 5k around Pere Marquette on August 1st!

Well I am slacking on week 2 as I got an awful sunburn on Sunday that I am still paying for! Then tonight a friend comes into town from England! So I am hopingggg I can get my booty to the treadmill tomorrow night for D1 of W2! Messes up my schedule a little bit but I am not going to give up! I am determined to get this training in so that I CAN accomplish the 5k on August 1st!

I would love to have a group to keep me going.  I just finished w3 d2 of the Couch to 5K and am hitting that point where my motivation is started to come down. I need all the motivation I can get!!
