Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Snowman,

Funny you should mention running IN the road.  Long before I started running, there's a guy we affectiionately called "Running Man" who would run by my house 3-4 times/week.  I live in a rural area but he would always run right on the yellow line and shift to the opposite side of the road when cars were coming.  I used to think he was nuts.  He wasn't a fast runner so he would almost look like he was staggering from one side of the line to the other.  Now I understand why he does it.

Good luck on Sunday and show the dogs that  YOU are the Top Dog!  Larry

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Good morning everyone,

Well I did it. I completed my first 5k. Wow!!! I can not believe that I did it and I did it without walking. I am so very proud of myself right now. I had a goal of finishing under 35 minutes and I beat that. My time was 34:08. Hooray for me. I did the susan g komen race for the cure in grand rapids and there were 6500 people in it. The energy there was intense, so many people all cheering each other on. I really didn't notice the hills because there were so many people I could not see them to dwell on them. All I have to say is WOW. I had been dodging a cold for the two days prior to the race so I was worried about how it was going to affect me. But, I prevailed!!! Ended up with what I am thinking is a migraine after the race (had some vision problems and then was wiped out) could of been a combo cold and physical exertion. Either way I am doing better today.

I can't wait to see how your race went Snowman....weather looked like it cooperated for you.

Happy Trails

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?

Bravo, Melmack, it is a great feeling to achieve a goal. Sorry about the headache.

I just signed up for what will be my third 5K. I have finally gotten my wife and son to sign up with me so we can do this together. I hope this turns into a great family fitness thing. I have 4 daughters as well, but they are all grown and gone. One is in my profile picture. That is from my oldest daughters wedding reception. I miss my girls, but I am looking forward to doing things like this with my son, who is more athletic.

Anyway, I enjoy hearing how everyone is doing. It seems like a lot of people are achieving goals, and building confidence. I think that is all really good. I know I am feeling good about myself at this point. So please keep posting. This is really enjoyable.

Running is becoming a passion, which allows my conscience the ability to give me the time and effort it deserves. When passion wears down, I will re-evaluate. Until then, I intend to push ahead toward each new goal as strongly as the first. If I become satisfied, I will re-evaluate. 5K PR to date is 26:08 on 9/19/09. Next goal is 25:00.

Re: Anyone interested in new 5K group?
Well, I ran my third 5K today. It was OK, not a PR. I was aiming for 25:00 and came in at 26:44. I did get my wife and son to enter also, and they want to continue to run with me in these races. So that is a real plus. We all came away with medals for our age groups, and I came in at 17th place overall. I am happy with that. I'll run again next month. James.
