Re: * * * Spring Starters 6/19 - 6/28  * * *

Did Week 7 Day 1 Today....  YAY!

actually did week 7 day 1 on Saturday also, but had to take a walk break about 3 mins halfway though.

I was testing how hard it was and how far I could go.

Had to take one 60 second walk break today, and also stopped for about a minute 1/2 through to stretch.

Do you think its ok to take tiny walk breaks and continue on in the weeks, or should I not go onto week 8 if I can't do it solid?? thoughts on this would be great  : )

Re: * * * Spring Starters 6/19 - 6/28  * * *

I did Week 4 Day 1 this morning . . . kinda.  I did great the first 3 min and the first 5 min run.  During my 2nd 3 min run, I psyched myself out, I think.  I came up to a hill, and stopped in the middle.  Then I had a fatalistic attitude during my 2nd 5 min run, and quit early.  I'm disappointed in myself.  But, I'm taking a lesson from erniedee - I won't let a bad run stop me!  Thanks so much for the inspiration in your post!

Klasmom - Huge Congrats!

Atfromtx - stick with it.  It seems like you have a good idea, get a bit of conditioning under your belt before you add in the running.

AllyDuran, I'll be curious to see how you like your compression shorts.  I know on the days when I work after I run, and I wear my compression socks to work, my ankles and calves seem to feel better.

Polarhug - good luck with whatever you decide.  I've had a couple of less than solid weeks, and I still move forward. I'm usally good by Day 3, though.  I don't know what I'd do if I had a completely awful Day 3.  But, I'm way behind you.

Hope everyone had a good run today.

Re: * * * Spring Starters 6/19 - 6/28  * * *

Week 7 done! We had an appointment this morning (post to follow on Dylan's page)  and hubby is out of town for work again so had to run after the kids were in bed on the treadmill (with ac and fans blasting because even at 9:00 pm it is hot!!!) I really do need to figure out how to get in outdoor runs again since I have a 4miler run planned on July 4th. I can't believe how close I am to completing this program. Before this I had never in my life run for more than even 15 mins straight and look at me now. I plan to do the G28K after this program but I like the idea of doing the combo with OHR too. I am going to try to stay right on schedule with runs so that I graduate prior to raceday or worst case scenario on race day. Great runs everyone!

Re: * * * Spring Starters 6/19 - 6/28  * * *

Congratulations!!  I ran a 5K a few years ago, and it was the most fabulous thing I have ever done!  All I can tell you is to keep going.  There will be lots of times you'll want to stop and say screw it, but keep going!  The finish line is a wonderful and amazing place to behold!  And there are so many people cheering you on and genuinely excited that you made it!!  Just go as slow as you need to, and keep going   Eat a light breakfast, drink as much water as  your body wants you too...just like you have on all these runs.  The 5K isn't much different...there are just  more people and fanfare!

I started the C25K this past week, trying to get back into running.  I've been amazed at how much BETTER I feel when I'm done.  And I remember how absolutely amazing I felt after that first 5K!!  Best of luck in September!

Re: * * * Spring Starters 6/19 - 6/28  * * *

I just finished week 4!!!  I will run W5 D1 on Thursday!  I am so psyched that I'm going into my fifth week.

My run seemed really hard today, but I got up a full hour earlier than usual so I could run outside before my hubby left for work.  During the week I don't usually have anyone to watch my son, so I had been going on the treadmill. I love running outside so much more.  Maybe after a few times of getting up early my body will adapt.  I am so glad that I signed up for a 5K for the week after I will graduate, it is really helping to keep me focused.

Happy running everyone!

Hi Everyone,

I could not find our thread on the first page so I decided to post and get us back up there! I am changing to go for my week 7 day 3 run again...polarhug, what did you decide to do about the walk /stretch breaks? my plan is to run somewhere flat soon and see if I get the week 8 run comfortably in.  i have a feeling all of my running on hills leaves me ready even if I take small breaks on this terrain. went to the nike and reebok stores at our outlet center today - would you believe not a single pair of compression shorts or running capris between em??? stopped at marshalls at got that adorable nike running skirt with the compression shorts underneath for $15 I am happy camper. will post again later. have a great day all! Erniedee you rock! That's a great attitude, and it's the only attitude that'll get you (and the rest of us) to a finish line. Thanks for posting.

Compression pants are pretty cool I have to say. I got mine at sports authority. They're super long though, and I had to cuff them at the bottom. I felt much better without all sorts of jiggling going on.

So, W3D2 is out of the way, and it wasn't so bad. You guys at the end are an inspiration. How hard was it for you at the beginning? I still can't imagine me running more than I am (though each stage is getting easier as the days go on).

Hey everyone,

Ran Week 8 Day 1 this afternoon, it was an ok run. It was warm, around 80 degrees - I took about 3 15 second breaks in the run but finished the 2.75 in 33 minutes. I still haven't dragged my butt to the flat section of town for a rail trail run but i am fairly certain that without the 200' of elevation I traverse I can go non stop> hopefully! how was everyone's day/run> mara

Re: * * * Spring Starters 6/19 - 6/28  * * *

Hi Gang thought I'd check in! I graduated about 2 weeks ago, and did my first 5K this weekend!!! it was drizzling which was kind of nice. My best friend (who does 10-milers) joined me which was fantastic. we finished in a screaming 37:40 (about 12:09 miles) which I was happy with. I had a rough week right before running a fever etc so I felt pretty good with that. I didn't have a very good time, I must admit, but I'm so dern happy now that I did it! whoo hoo

AND even better really I had a revelation this evening. right after the 5k I told myself I'd take the whole week off as a reward . . . well today I had the itch and really wanted to run . . . so I did and instead of going on my carefully mapped out 3.1 mile route that's as flat as I can make it, I just went any old which way, hit 3 hills along the way, and stopped at 2 miles when I'd had enough. Had a great pace and actually really enjoyed just doing what felt good instead of pushing pushing and mapping mapping . . . . kind of a break through for me. thought I'd share!

GMaxwell - great job.  I know we graduated about the same time, and my first 5K is this weekend.  I'm hoping to do it in 40 minutes or less.  You've now inspired me to keep on running, and it's nice to know that we can go out and run just for the fun of it and really enjoy it!!

Great job!  Keep up the good work!

Carol

Re: * * * Spring Starters 6/19 - 6/28  * * *

I am just going to keep pushing through the week and keep on schedule.  25 Mins tomorrow and 25 Friday.

I'm not too sore, so I'm hoping my endurance starts to expand.

It's probably just a mental thing to NOT stop at all the entire time.  I'll just have to get over it

Seems like when I walk I just start jogging again 30 seconds later anyway lol

Just finished Day 3 of Week 1!!  Pretty exciting!!  I kinda can't wait for week 2!  I know it's still a bit of both walking and running, but it feels so stinkin' good when I'm done!  I love that so many of you are graduated already and still running just for the sake of running!  Gives me hope!

MN Grandma . . . thanks! good luck to you on your 5K you'll do better than you think I bet!

truly, today, going out to run because I felt like it and doing some hills by choice for the first time and just stopping at 2 miles because I felt finished . . . it's a great feeling. I haven't had that before so I am all the more thankful for it and it gives me hope that I'll stick with it.

Re: * * * Spring Starters 6/19 - 6/28  * * *

Hello Everyone:

Just checking in since it has been a few days since I last posted. I am still running, although I am taking it a bit slower these days (more days off between runs). I completed W7D2 on Friday, and it was a great run. I am going to tackle W7D3 tomorrow morning. I had a hectic schedule this past week, traveling back to NY and all, so I haven't been on my normal set regiment. I am anxious to get back in the swing of things here though. Unfortunately, due to some family issues, I was unable to participate in the 5K on Sunday. I am ready for the next one though, and am excited to almost see the light at the end of the C25K tunnel.

Also, my friend referred me to a book called 'Chi Running' after I told her about my interests in meditation and running. I will let you all know how it is after I read it.

Happy running!
