Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

Welp - My first 5k is this coming Saturday! Woot! Right after that, I'll be starting Jeff Galloway's 1/2 marathon training plan. I attempted a 4 mile run on Saturday, just to make sure I'd be in great shape for the 5k and I DID IT! AND I felt like I could keep going! 4 miles! SHUT UP! I seem to have found that sweet spot in which running 'seems' effortless and I can just zone out and keep going...so cool. Listening to an audiobook really helps too, takes my mind off of what I'm doing.

I start Jeff Galloway's 1/2 marathon training program after this weekend. I've signed up for the Carlsbad 1/2 marathon in January. I'm pretty sure I'll end up taking a few walking breaks during the race, which is fine with me. The race time limit is 6 hours, so there's absolutely no rush. I'd like to finish in under 3 hours-ish though...we'll see how that goes.

galewind - Congratulations graduate!!! Kudos to you for sticking with it! So many people quit when they run into snags or have injuries...you stuck with it and now you're done! Woo-hoo!

jayazusa - Congratulations on running 4 miles! Isn't it a great feeling when you finally find that pace in which you feel like you could just keep on going?

4babes - Congrats on completing your first 5k in 33 minutes! I have my first this Saturday and I'm so excited I can't even stand it. My normal 5k time is about 37-38 minutes, so I'm hoping that my race day excitement will knock a few minutes off of that time. If not, I'm still happy to be able to even do it!!!

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

Hello!  Been a while since I've checked in here.  How's everyone doing?

I finished my first 12 mile run yesterday!  I'm SO excited that I'm getting so close to running that 13.1 miles!!  Just another couple weeks and I'm going for it!  YEAH!  I have been really working on my 5K time too and broke 26:30 last week!  Huge accomplishment for me!

Other than that life's just been busy.  Homeschooling, cleaning, laundry, running kids to all their activities and getting our house ready to sell!!  I never thought we would try and sell this house but we're going to.  We built 4 years ago and when we built we did a LOT of the work ourselves so have some major equity in it so we're going to sell and build again (rent while we're building).  Thankfully the housing market here hasn't had problems like other places in the US.  People are still buying and selling like normal.

The girls gymnastics is going well! My 3.5 year old was just invited to pre-team last week (team here starts at level 4)!  She is SO excited!!!  She cannot be 'on' the team until she is 6 but she should definitely be ready for it when she does turn 6.

Galewind ~ CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Katie ~ Great job on your 5K and great time!!!!

Jay ~ You're doing awesome!!  I ended up making up my own plan instead of following one.  But I really do like the looks of the Hal Higdon 1/2 plan!  Glad it's working for you!

Coreena ~ How did the race go??  The 1/2 in January sounds like a great goal!!

Hope everyone's doing great!!!

Re: First Day of C25K June 27th

Coreena - You are so right, when you find the right zone it really seems like you can just go for hours.  Good luck in your 5K this weekend remember it is your race you dont need to keep up with the leader, run for you and you will be supprised with you results.  Since you are starting a 1/2 Marathon prep plan, look at the 1/2 Marathon forum they start a new one weekly I have been following that and there are a ton of great people with amazing insight into preparing for a 1/2 Marathon.

Erin - You are my Hero, 12 Miles and a 5K time of 26:30, you really are amazing to be able to do all that you do and add mileage and speed.  I am intrest to hear when you complete 13.1 miles and what kind of time you do that in, I am hoping to complete my first 1/2 in under 2:30 but we shall see, lots of miles between my long run of 6 this week and 13.1 race day.

To anyone else that is still out there pluggin along, remember why you started this and how far you have come, I know life gets busy and it is hard to get out of bed in the morning, I know there are days where I dont want to do this any more, and runs where I have to tell myself I am getting stronger and feeling better, when I get home and stretch I feel so good for completing the miles.

Keep on running,

Jay
