Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

I haven't posted in a while, but I'm still here!

I finished my 20 minute W5 run on Saturday morning and it felt GREAT!  This was the first time I've run without my roommate (UptownrunnerLiz), so I took my iPod with me, but found it to be almost more of a hassle than a help.  I kind of like listening to the rhythm of my feet on the pavement.  Although, I did make a pretty great Michael Jackson mix and found it was just what I needed to keep going when I hit the 12 minute mark!  By the time I hit the 20 minutes, I was ready to keep going mentally, but knew I needed a little bit of a break physically.  I did a 5 minute walk and then ran for another 3-4 minutes, then cooled down and went home.  All in all, a great run.

Today my roommate & I will start W6... and I'm really looking forward to this 25 minute run at the end of the week!  I like running the longer intervals so I can just get in the 'zone' and go... no need to watch the clock!

I have to say, I've come to find that I REALLY like running.  I am finally to the point where I'm excited about running even while I'm doing it, which I never thought would happen.

It's really great to see everyone doing so well, keep up the good work!

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

I'm still here!  Home from vacation in Ft Lauderdale.  Completed Week 6 on Sunday bright and early.  Dragged my hubby out for the 25 minute run too. It was SOOOO nice to be able to not only keep up with him, but for it to be easy for the first time ever.  HE was the one huffin and puffin this time!  I think seeing how far I've come will be motivation for him to get off the couch and get back in shape too.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK WITNESSES!   We are almost there!  Smooth sailing here on out!

Hello All!  I'm on vaca this week with family, but I completed W7D1 yesterday.  Felt great.  I LOVE running now w/o all the stopping and starting.  What a great feeling!  Going today around town with my sister to find where we can run in the morning.  Limited internet access, so might not post until I make it back to Chicago late in the week.  Take care all of you --- keep up the AWESOME work!!

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

Hi everyone! I'm technically on Week 7 day 1, and am just running for distance now. i did 2.5 miles this morning in just under 34 minutes (with only 2 minutes of walking in the middle in 2 one minute spurts). I'm going to continue this run for the week and try to improve my time by a little bit every day.

I just signed up for my first 5k- August 2nd!

Hi Team!

Well, I decided to celebrate my W5D3 20 minute run yesterday, and my birthday today, by buying a real pair of running shoes.  Can't wait to break them in tomorrow!  AND.......I signed up for my first 5K!  It's July 25th, so I really need to keep up the momentum to be ready in time.  Hubby has had to back off training with me, but he will be running in the 1 mile fun run for the kids with our boys.

Great job to EVERYONE!  We're really doing this!

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

Thanks everyone for your support the other week.  I'm sorry I've been MIA--I've had some personal issues pop up and I'm starting Week 4 over again this week, which leaves me fairly far behind everyone else.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

Hey Everybody,

I finished wk7day1 today.  It was good, except I think I'm going way too slow.  I got a new program for my iphone and it says that I'm going 3.1 m/h.  That's like a walking speed.  I looked it up on line and I guess I'm supposed to be going 5 m/h?   Help me with this because I'm not hitting my distance.  I'm going by time, not distance, but I'd like to hit the distance also.  Any help to make me go faster?

Thanks and great job to everyone who is hanging in there!!!

Hi Witnesses!

Where is everyone?! To all you Witnesses who are still on this journey, great work   We are almost there!

Meryl - I know what you mean about just running, I too am loving it.  just run, no keeping track of intervals.  I'm finding it to be a great way to start my day, clear my head and set my intention for the day.  It's really helping me focus.

I finished W7D3 Sunday near Lake Tahoe.  I'd been there for 2 1/2 days so figured I'd adjusted some to the altitude but it was still killer. it was more walk than run.  This was the first time a ran on a trail, all dirt. had to really watch my steps but the surface felt so much softer than asphalt. and the wildflowers were gorgeous.  Wish I could do that all the time.....  I may repeat W7 since I'm feeling a little twinge in the knees.  I'll see how it goes on tomorrow's run.

Everyone have a great week.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

Glad to see there are a few of us still posting, hanging in there!  W7D1 was suppose to be Sunday for me, but I came home from a weekend trip with a stomach virus, food poisoning something.  The first time in seven weeks that I have not been able to follow the steps of the program in order.  Tonight will be my W7D1!  I knew the group would become smaller by the middle of the program, but I'm glad to still see some familiar names!  I read the posts, and I too find that I enjoy running.  There is  a point where your body just finds a place and it  runs, much easier than running and walking.  The joy, or thrill, that I can run is indescribable.  This is something that I have wanted to do for a while, and I'm finally doing it.  Congratulations to each of you who keep plugging along each week on a journey to a better you!  Looking forward to reading your posts each week!

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

Hello All!  I haven't run my W7D1 yet this week--I'm in the midst of packing up my house and I actually had a phone interview yesterday during the time I set aside for running, so I will hit the treadmill this evening instead.  I figure since we're just running 25 minutes straight this week with no intervals, I can get to it when I can get to it!

Bujdoso:  I really don't think you should be too concerned with how fast you are going at this point.  If you are running the whole 25 minute run, then you are right on track.  If you haven't ever been a consistent runner, the focus now should be to build your stamina (which is what you are doing by running for these longer intervals).  Once your body adjusts to running for longer periods of time, you then will be able to concentrate on the speed.  Also, I think that speed is really relative to our bodies--some people can go faster because they have longer legs, etc. (Less strides, same distance as those with shorter legs).  I'd say complete the C25K program (only 2 more weeks after this one!!!), and by that point your body will have even more stamina than it has now.  Then, and only then, work on speed.

Good running!

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

Bujdoso----I can only speak for myself, but I too am on Week 7.  My feeling for me during the course of all of this training was to let my body be able to run.  May be for you at this time, that the pace is where you are comfortable.  I think as you progress in your running, that your pace will be quicker.  I chose to do the program by time, and I have not worried about distance at this point.  I do have a 2.6 mile loop that I do each time, and I know how to extend it to 3.1 miles.  Every week I have completed the 2.6 mile loop, running varies lengths of it. I knew by the end of the program that I wanted to know that I could run 3.1 miles.  The program has an ideal speed of a 10 minute mile by the end of it.  I don't know that very many of us are running near a 10 minute mile pace at this time.  My point is that your fitness and pace will improve as you progress in the program.  If you push yourself to do more prior to being ready, then you may push yourself into quitting.  I think you should choose one or the other, distance or time.  Concentrate on the success of completing one of those instead of trying to have both at this point in your training.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

Obxgrl---Love using a Garmin.  Husband has one, and it really motivated me in this program.  I forgot my watch while on vacation.  (I used his Garmin, something I had no real desire to use.)  When he told my my stats after my runs, I was amazed.  I learned my average pace was 12 minutes, which I was very proud.  My goal through all of this was a 15  minute pace, and just the ability to run 3 miles.  It also tracked my best pace at 9 minutes on one run, and 8:30 on another.  Those are smoking speeds for me, not something I did for long distances.  The kicker is I had no idea that I had reached that pace for any part of the run. I just love knowing the distance that I have ran.  Last Thursday I ran for 33 minutes on W6D3, the whole distance back home.  This meant I ran 2.4 miles in that time.  He bought his almost three years ago, so it's now the inexpensive one.  (I think they run about hundred bucks now.)  He has talked about upgrading, as he would like to be able to download his info.  I certainly would recommend it which ever one you choose.  I found the info very encouraging, especially since we are running longer distances.

Re: ~~~ CALLING ALL WITNESSES - WEEK 7 IS HERE~~~~~

tchrmomto2 and mattmikesmom, Thanks for responding to my post.

I will stay focused on enjoying the fact that I am running/jogging and I will still concentrate on time.  I'm amazed that just a few short weeks ago 90 seconds of jogging seemed like torture and I could not wait for the walking intervals.  I can now go over 25 minutes without stopping at all!  Now that's progress!!!

Thanks for the good advice!

Have a great day!
