Re: Anyone Else Starting C25K Week of July 6th?

Great to see everyone jumping on board !

Started today! I am literally starting from the couch -38, overweight, and  no reasonable amount of exercise has been done in a very long time. Before the end of the warm up walk I felt the creaks in my body - left achilles, right knee. I was worried how I would fair, as it very easy for me to make excuses. Managed well for the first 3 run intervals, had to remind myself not to hunch forward on the 4th interval, and was really winded by the 7th. I walked through the last run - and I wouldn't call my "runs" impressive - knees were higher and pace faster than my walk, but far from anything resembling a run. Have to start somewhere! Aches were gone as muscles warmed up and I stretched after. Need to find my Ipod case - hands were pretty sweaty by the end, and may go earlier next time - too hot by 8:30!

Keep the updates coming! Great job everyone!!!!

OK!!!

just finished W1D2. really enjoyed yet again. I am so glad I found this program. More importantly is the help and cues you get from the podcasts-before I was always staring at the treadmill trying to hit the times/keep track of what type of speed etc etc. (hey walking and chewing gum is hard enough dang it!!). workout goes by before you know it.

anyways-good luck all-see ya Thursday!!

I will start it with you guys too. I used this program months ago and it was a lot of fun with the podcast. I have a lot of hills to climb up and down. Wish me luck.

Hey Mandy, count me in.  Just finished W1 and begin Week 2 tomorrow.  Did it quite successfully three years ago and completed a 5K with my daughters.  Since then I've gained a few pounds, aged a few years, gotten away from running.  But I'm back... and this time I'm looking forward to completing a 1/2 marathon in March.

I'm not familiar with Suz' podcast.  I did Robert's before but just couldn't get in the groove... Would love some fresh music to try as opposed to clock watching on the treadmill.  Thanks!

@YCD - I got new sneakers to avoid that. Have you tried getting fitted for running shoes?

Fleet Foot on Roswell Road was good, thought I actually got the shoes they recommended from New Balance ( I wanted them in pink)!  Also, a lot of stretching is the key I hear...

I have completed W1D1 and W1D2.  I started and was amazed on how quickly it ended.  it was great!   My next run day is thrusday.

As for shin splints- I have a solution that worked for me.    I got this tip directly from Jeff Galloway .  I met him at a Sports store in Lakeland (FitNiche) last year and he talked about his running method.  I asked about how to stop shin splints and he said "Shorten your stride".  I did and have not had that problem since then!!

Re: Anyone Else Starting C25K Week of July 6th?

Did W1D2 this morning. I love how this program keeps me from pushing too far too fast and keeps me disciplined. Running on pavement has always caused knee and chin pain for me in the past- mostly because I tried to run too far and too long too soon. I like to run and bike on trails, which are easier on the legs, but that is not as convenient since I need to drive to them. Robert's podcast keeps it interesting and the time flies by.

Re: Anyone Else Starting C25K Week of July 6th?

So I'd started a few weeks ago and was stuck on week 2. Planned on today being W2D2 but selected week 3 podcast by mistake (still dark at 5AM and no glasses!) but kept with it. I can't believe I ran 3 minutes at a time! When he said "this is your final run" I was quite surprised. I did it! Stretched  a lot afterwards and hope to be able to do day 3 on Friday. Fingers crossed.

Re: Anyone Else Starting C25K Week of July 6th?

Thanks everyone for the great advice on shin splints.  I did go to a running store for my shoes, about 3 times, so it should not be the shoes.  I will try the shorter stride suggestion, I will let you know how it works today!

I'm running W1D2 today in the treadmill because my neighborhood is all hills, I don't think I can tackle those just yet.

Where are the Suz podcasts?  Anyone?

Happy Running!
