Re: Pet Peeves while running?

I can't stand people who don't trim their hedges or shrubbery and allow it to grow over the sidewalk. It's really not fun having to dodge branches on a stupid sidewalk... especially when you are also allergic to beestings and fear running too closely to any plantlife! Must we worry about plants, too?! - Discruntled runner

New pet peeve! When its raining and cars will go out of their way to splash you. Because I didn't have enough water covering me in the first place.

I agree re the dogs. I'm regularly harrassed by loose dogs on my route, I've taken to carrying a stick and if they come near me, they'll have a concussion.

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

Yup...cars not yielding is the worst. I started running about 3 months ago and I've almost been hit twice already!!! I get paranoid when crossing the cross walk.

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

These are all so funny but very true...my biggest ones:

-Smokers. I can't stand breathing in second hand smoke in general, but while I'm running it's 10 times worse.

-People crowing a path. Typically the groups of 3-4 female walkers deep in conversation...it's so frustrating when they look at you running toward them and completely ignore the fact that there's no room for you to get by.

-People who yell things out their car windows...or throw things.

-And I'm in total agreement with the dead animal thing...especially ones that have been there a while. Being out of breath and then trying to hold it as you pass that repulsive smell can be tricky!

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

More than anything else, it drives me nuts when rollerbladers and cyclists get all huffy and irritated that they have to go around you or, god forbid, slow down on a public path because you're running on it.  If people aren't staying on their sides, fine, but sorry, otherwise the fast guys with more equipment have to yield to the slower guys.  Cars yield to bikes yield to rollerbladers yield to runners yield to walkers.  If you need to go extremely fast on your rollerblades or bike, please find somewhere other than a crowded public path to do so.

Cars who nearly hit you suck, too.

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

i hate coming up on someone on a bicycle on the sidewalk.  What are they doing on the side walk in the first place and then they expect you to move out of their way.

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

My biggest one is people who feel they need to stop in large groups in the middle of a public path to have social hour and act like it's an inconvenience to them to move so you can run through. I tend to tell them if they are going to stand around to get off the path.

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

Trees that hang so low over a side walk that a walker has to avoid them, also bushes that encroach the sidewalk.

people who yell "run Forrest run!"

and little kids walking with parents, but walking WAY ahead.  I've run in bushes and tripped trying to avoid smashing into a 2 year old.

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

It use to drive me crazy when people stared at me when I was running through a residential neighborhood as if to say "what is that guy doing" or "is he being chased." Now I actually smile and enjoy it because I realize I'm doing something positive for myself and take pride in it.

The only thing that gets me now is breathing in bad car exhaust and all the goose "droppings" on the trails where I run.

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

My biggest pet peeve is when people leave their dogs in their front yards unattented and not leashed or tied out.  And when the creepy guys yells "Lookin good".....

Re: Pet Peeves while running?

Too many people complain when they should be grateful. If your a runner you already know what can be annoying. How about a less negative approach and ask what the best things are about running. If you actually have the ability to run you shouldn't complain.
