Re: Freedom Run 2009 Reviews

You can find your 2009 results under 2007.  (I found my 5K results under 5K searchable, it still says 2007 but updated July 4 2009).  I love the freedom run, because I love BYU and Provo and the Freedom Festival and it doesn't matter to me if it is not perfectly organized.  This is my 2nd year, it is a blast to run along the parade route!!!

Re: Freedom Run 2009 Reviews

To all those dogging on the coordination of the race, have a little patience and understanding.  The number of racers was in the thousands.  I have run this race MANY times, and it is an excellent way to start the 4th.  I organize a small run in Heber City on the 24th of July (100 or so runners) and it is NOT an easy task.

Great Job, freedom festival, there were minor glitches, as there always will be.

One suggestion I've heard from several people, a smaller logo on the front of the race shirts would probably lend itself to being worn much more after race day.

Thank you and see you next year.

Re: Freedom Run 2009 Reviews

Untrained, but undaunted, and a novice to "racing", I entered this run to reconnect with my Amazon cousins, who participate in tri-athalons, 5Ks, and 10Ks throughout the West ( my cousin, who is 7 months pregnant beat me), but most importantly to run with my teenage daughter, who runs for "the joy of it". We found the entire experience to be positive and plan to attend in the future...but with better shoes and perhaps a little more preparation ( after all, my cousin will have had her baby by next year).

This race is family friendly and the organizers are absolutely the best people you will meet.

Re: Freedom Run 2009 Reviews

I enjoyed the race. This was my third 5k in under a month and getting back into running after being so far away from it is great. I loved seeing that many people turn out for a 5k! Simply amazing. The route was decent as well, though its a bit more difficult to get a PR when you finish uphill, oh well, maybe next time.

I also really liked the microfiber shirts, however I agree with others that the logo could have been smaller and maybe a bit more creative? I'm sure with the cost of the shirts screenprinting would be even more expensive so maybe there was a reason behind the madness.

The pace signs were fantastic! Instead of people lumping up at the front and than having to run around them, it was a bit easier. So thanks for that one!

Lame- Saying finishers medals would be awarded and than switched to water bottles. I realize that maybe such a large volume of entrants affected this, but its still lame. Its like promising a kid a sucker if they finish their chores and than giving them an apple. Still decent, but not the same. I was really looking forward to displaying my medal showing I finished!

People incorrectly running course. How could this have happened?

Overall, thanks to the organizers for putting on the race and giving me an opportunity to get out and just run! Work on next year getting enough medals for everyone or simply just don't say something you aren't going to follow through on. Very unprofessional in my view and a big disappointment to many, putting a damper on a otherwise great run before I evens started it. And make sure people don't run the wrong way!
