Big Girl Walking...

I'm probably the only big girl out here trying to be atheletic and change my lifestyle.

I appreciated the thread on big sports bras.  Now where do I find decent sport clothing and not worry about people laughing at me?

I'm 5'8", 250 lbs and I'm walking 2-3 miles daily (weekdays) and 5-6 miles daily on weekends.  Any advise on decent size big girl workout clothes?

thanks

susan

    Hello Susan,

I was hoping there'd be some response here.  I'm 5'7" and 240 lbs. and plan to begin walking for a beginning runner's program at the end of August.  The only suggestion I have is online searching.  It seems like they'd have exercise clothes in large sizes, doesn't it!

I am small up top so I don't have a problem finding bras... but I am quite hippy and have found some great pants & shorts at Walmart, and they are relatively inexpensive.

My DW has always had luck at Catherines.  Look under thier active wear line.  You can find it HERE.

    Hi,

Sorry you're having a difficult time finding fit clothes that fit well, that's frustrating. But, that aside, many congratulations on your work, walk...Keep at it! And yeah, cut up those old sweatpants .

    Re: Big Girl Walking...

LaneBryant.com has all the bra's for me, I'm now 5'7" and 200 lbs but was a lot bigger a few years ago.  They have every size you'll never find in stores.  I still have to wear two bras to keep the "bouncing" somewhat controlled.

I shop at Fashion Bug (in store usually has some clearance pants) for my sweat pants and shirts, though I just wear regular t-shirts for working out.  Something about me and spandex do not agree.  After watching the Danskin triathlon in Seattle today, there were several large women in workout gear, maybe the Danskin site has some but its probably spendy.  Nice job on the walking!

    Hi Susan,

I have ones similar to these at Penny's.  They fit my 200+ 5'6" frame and on sale for $13 at Jcpenny.com

I couldn't copy the page link right, but they're XersionTM Straight Hem Woven Short for 12.99  with a 4 1/2" inseam.

The drawstring waist gives me more room and fit throghout my pregnancy; I was an XL before the pregnancy.

I've had my two pair for 4 years and wear them for soccer and regular wear.  Hope this works!
