Re: Women's Running Magazine Women's Half Marathon & 5K Reviews

This was a beautiful race! The parking was very organized and easy which is always wonderful. There were spectators cheering throughout the entire race which was amazing and something that is not common in my racing experience.

The only problem was at the start. The shoot was WAY to small and there was not nearly enough room for the different pace groups. I would've lined up at the 9 minute pace mark except could not get there and ended up behind the walkers!!! There were a ton of us in this situation and we basically had to plow through people for miles before we could actually run at pace! This added many several minutes to my time, but luckily I wasn't trying to PR in this race--I would've been quite upset if I had been. Overall though, this race had a great spirit and feel to it and I would do it again in a second

Excellent half-marathon with a scenic view and lots of water/gatorade stations. Enjoyed the race and the beautiful medal. Thanks for such a wonderful event and for supporting LLS and its fight against cancer!

Re: Women's Running Magazine Women's Half Marathon & 5K Reviews

Loved the course including the fun portion at Tropicana Field. I?d be interested to see the accuracy of the route?s distance since others have mentioned their Garmins showed 13.29 ? this would explain why I was slower than I expected (or at least gives me a good excuse!)

The half marathon start coral was entirely too congested as were the first few miles. Parking at the Vinoy for packet pick-up was near impossible and very frustrating.

This was my 1st Half Marathon and I have to say it was,....."ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, FANTABULOUS!!!!"....I think I'm still on my runner's high from yesterday! lol...Congrats to the Road race director, organizers, volunteers and supporters!!  My suggestion at the Starting Line would be to have the runners go 1st because we had to weave in and out of some of the walkers..or have it so where you can line up with your specific pace...But overall it was OUTSTANDING!!!  LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR!!!  =)

This was my first half marathon and it was SPECTACULAR!!! Everything was so organized and the route was perfect. Thank you for making it an unforgettable event. I can't wait until next year and to bring along my brother for the run! He did not register because he thought it was only women.

Re: Women's Running Magazine Women's Half Marathon & 5K Reviews

Overall a great first time event.  Course was beautiful and interesting and I loved seeing so many people wearing pink!!  Very fun.  Only problem - the start was crazy - fortunately I wasn't running for time but I did speak to several people who were and they were very frustrated.  There were walkers EVERYWHERE at the start - front, middle - sometimes walking 4 across.  And the 5k and 1/2 started at the same time - adding to the confusion.  The course was very narrow for the first few miles and it was impossible to maintain any sort of decent pace while weaving around the slower walkers and runners.  I expect this problem was because they had a larger crowd than expected - which is good.  I do hope they find a solution if they hold the event again.

Water stops were frequent and volunteers were great.  Music along the course was enjoyable and there was a great crowd of people all along the course cheering the runners on.  Beautiful morning and a very fun event.  I would definitely recommend it and would attend again.

Re: Women's Running Magazine Women's Half Marathon & 5K Reviews

I DID IT!  My first half marathon was the most perfect exeperience.  The venue was amazing.  The sun coming up through the clouds, the cool gulf breezes, the race organization was great.  The starting line was a bit frustrating.  Could not get up to pace until about mile 3 when all the walkers were weeded out.  Maybe next time a staggered start time for walkers in the half marathon like with the 5k walkers.  I will most definately be back next year and hopefully will finish with a much better time thanks to a better starting line set up.

Great event, well done for a first time.....Only criticism is it should have started much earlier to avoid the heat and sun. In addition not enough porta parties at first few miles, long lines.

This was my first half marathon and I thought it was wonderful! It was organized very well, great scenery, fabulous volunteers, and a unique experience esp Tropicana Field. The few things I would suggest are starting the 5K after the half marathon and also maybe some actual food instead of just snacks after the race. While the goodie bags were great, we paid quite a bit of money to enter and only eat snacks afterwards. I would love to do this race again next year, and hopefully it will be a little cheaper. Overall it was great!!

Re: Women's Running Magazine Women's Half Marathon & 5K Reviews

I have been racing for about a year now.  This was my first half marathon--all I can say is wow, well done.  This event was so well organized, the race staff all need to be congratulated.  Great job.

Some areas to improve:  the start was a tight squeeze, especially compared to the 5K side of the gate.  Although you had signs, walkers were mixed into areas that showed 10 mile pace- or faster.  It is hard to get around everyone when they don't start where they should and then walk 3 people side by side. I found myself really running on the 5K side for as long as I could. For such a long race, maybe walkers can start earlier, so we all finish around the same time--to enjoy awards, pictures, snacks and give aways.

(not sure how that happens though...).

There were so many people doing their first half, I know you made it very special.  I saw people crying at the finish.  Touching.

Positives: great route, lots of people cheering the runners on-- fun, Loved going through the stadium, awesome, especially at the end when you are already exhausted- it gave a rush!  best goodie bags ever, fabulous expo and great after-race snacks.  I loved all of the extras like bag check, people taking charms off and placing on necklaces, calling peoples names at the finish.  It was an awesome event.  And it raised so much money.  GREAT! Hope you do it again!  I will be there.

Re: Women's Running Magazine Women's Half Marathon & 5K Reviews

Great race. Two suggestions - 1) fix the starting line up - it was really jammed and difficult to get my pace at the start of the race and 2) make it easy for others to pick up bibs and packets prior to the race. It is not realistic to assume that everyone can make it a day in advance of the race to pick up materials. Also, beginners should be instructed to stay to the right to allow those who want to run to keep moving on the left. The staff, volunteers, and race goodies were awesome. I enjoyed every moment and would recommend this race to others. Congratulations on a terrific inaugural race.

This was my first half-marathon and I thought it was a great experience. My only real wish is that you start it earlier! Other than that, it was a lot of fun and I will definitely do it again.

Thank you for an awesome race! Love the shirt, the way it fits and the crocs! I was fortunate to line up early so had no trouble but thought the ability to enter the corral from the side would be great. Great planning with all the water stops and plenty of volunteers! I too wonder the accuracy of the course as my Garmin showed 13.38 and I ran a very straight race. Question, was there a 12 - 13 mile marker on the course as I do not recall seeing it? The finish was great with the layout and love wearing my medal charm! Looking forward to participating in 2010!

Great course and support! Loved running around the bases at the Trop! Thank you to all the volunteers and staff.

Maybe next year we can have a start line chute to feed runners in to the line up. I and a few others ran in to some participants who were not terribly accommodating with letting us move past them to get to our pace time line up.

Overall, great event and I will do it again next year!

Loved this race!  Well organized, plenty of water stations and volunteers.  The course couldn't have been more well planned.  I loved running around the stadium at the end.  It was such a great time and I was born and raised in St. Petersburg so I've been running this city my entire life.  It was great to have my family and friends out cheering for me.  I really enjoyed it and I ran a great race to boot!
