Hi there. I posted this same question under "outdoor" and just realized there is a travel section.
My friend and I live in Ohio, and we are wanting to take some type of outdoor/adventure/FUN trip. We have $1000 between us. Any ideas?
hmmm....$1000? pack your bikes, get a cabin at Old Man's Cave east of Columbus (type in Old Man's Cave in any search engine and you will find it) and run/hike and bike til your hearts content. great scenery, great trails, cant miss good time.
I don't know if you'd be interested in driving a little, but there is a place in Tennessee called Fall Creek Falls (you can Google it), which is a park that's very pretty and has a lot of waterfalls. You could do a ton of challenging hiking there. I believe they also rent bikes and row boats. The area is very non-commercialized, although they do have a no-frills hotel on the grounds. Make sure to bring your camera; those waterfalls are something to see!
Thanks so much for your ideas. They both sound really great. I have been looking into cruise packages, and I have found a really awesome trip in December. It goes to Key West and Mexico and has 2 excursion days. The entire trip, with airfare included, will be under $1000. Hopefully the hubby can "parent" the kids while she's gone:) I will look into your ideas if it doesn't work out.
