Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

I ran W6D2 Saturday and it went awful! I had a headache and was not in the mood to run, but thought maybe I'd feel better after I got started... WRONG! I ended up with a pounding head for the rest of the day that kept me up Saturday night too. So needless to say I'll be repeating that run tomorrow. I know I can do it, I just had the odds stacked against me that day.

Lula- I know what you mean about the not getting sick much thing. I rarely get sick and then when I got so sick and down for 2 weeks I was so bummed. I'm looking forward to our 5K though. I can feel myself get a little nervous/ anxious about it now that it's getting closer though!

I re-ran W6D2 tonight and it was amazing the different that the right mind set can make for you. It went great and the weather felt amazing!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

gomommy- i feel ya on the headache- i've had a very dull tension headache for the past 4 days- it is FINALLY easing off- i think i slept on my neck funny and my chiropractor is on holidays (how dare he! ) so I've been taking motrin to help ease the annoyance of it- it isn't even painful- it is just THERE.

I am so glad you are getting excited for your 5K- as it got closer for me i would think about it and get nervous- couldn't sleep the night before!

I ran again today (OH found ear muffs- and low and behold- BEAUTIFUL weather today.. oh well... i'll get to wear them soon!) for about 20 min- could have kept going but my neighbour saw me coming around the corner and wanted to talk- geeze.lol didn't she see me in full run mode? I also got something to put on my arm to hold my ipod- makes a WORLD of difference- i am not as tense as i was when I was holding it.

Hoping to get back up to 30 min tomorrow- or the next day.

How is everyone else doing?

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

I ran today through some pain in my calf. My goal was 12 laps around the track in lane  4, which, without having done that actual research, I think is about 5K. I did it in just a hair over 36 minutes. I'm still not happy with how long it takes me to cover my distances, but I'd rather run slowly than not at all. I'm just going to keep working on my minutes rather than distances and work my way up to 60 minutes.

Hope everybody's doing their running and setting goals and achieving them!

Keep on truckin'

So we've pretty much all been trying to decide "what's next and how do I get there?" I had decided the One Hour Runner was next for me, until I found this today...

http://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/intermediate-running-weightloss-program

It's very similar to the OHR program, but it has non-running workouts for the off days and you run 4 days a week, rather than 3 days. It's 6 weeks long and gets you up to running for 60 mins. I thought I'd share it in case anyone else was interested!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Hi

everyone, thought I would check in and say hello.   Happy to see the scale dropping each week.  I am getting a bit nervous for the 5K in 10 days but that is normal I suppose.   Crazy day today so I will not be able to run but will hit the road tomorrow.   Have not found my way to the running store to buy some extra clothes for outside running.  Really have to to get there if I am going at the lake for the 5K.  The wind can be brutal.

As Jason says  * keep truckin'

Hey Everyone!

I did W8D2.  It wasn't bad.  I can't believe the difference it makes when you're not freaking out about mileage.  I'm sure I'm running over two miles, but how much more I have not idea.  So much better than pushing beyond what I can safely do.

I was thinking......it sounds like a lot of us want to move to longer runs.  Why don't we start a thread here ,so that no matter what program we use, we can support each other here.  For me being accountable and have a group suffering the same issues I am makes it worth the pain.  What's everyone think?  Should we continue this thread?  Start a new one?  Move to another site?  What?  and I guess more important is anyone interested?

Keep running!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Hi strangers!  Just as soon as I posted about getting sick less since I started running... I got sick!  Ugh.  Then had computer issues, and missed a whole week with you all.  Bummer.  Anyway, I got an inhaler as part of my meds for the lung issues from the sickness and let me tell you how tempting that little thing is for running!  I feel like an MLB player doing steroids when I use it.  I was up to running for 20 minutes, and then on Monday I used my inhaler for the last time before I ran and managed 30 minutes with no issues!  I haven't used it since, as I have been feeling better, and my running shows it.  Back to 20 minutes now.  I have a 30 minute run tonight and am hoping that my "un-medicated" lungs will handle it ok.  I have really noticed that running at night is much easier than in the morning, and that freaks me out becuase my 5k is in 2 weeks and is in the morning.  Not sure what the difference is, other than I am better fed and watered at night, but boy is my performance weak in the AM.  Maybe if I wear sunglasses during the 5k it will trick my body into thinking it's night time!

I have to catch up with what you all have been up to!  So glad to be back!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Oh my you have all been busy!

ShoSho - 10K??!!  Way to go!

Iverly - 7K??!!  When did you all get so good!  So proud of this group!

KateC - loved the post about how you used to only be able to walk around the lake, and now you run it!  You've come a long way baby!

TucsonMom - glad you are still here and doing the best you can.  Sorry about the pain you have, that stinks, and I agree that getting older is not much fun.

GoMommy - You are STILL GOING and that is more than good enough!

Matt_1779 - 10lbs!  Wow that is awesome!  Congrats!

LulaB - LOVED the quote, and going to paste to my mirror.

MarciP & All - I agree, what's next?  I am registered for a 1/2 marathon in January, so will be working towards that.  I have no intention (at this point) of running the whole thing, I am registered as a walker, but I do want to run as much as I can.

CoyoteCoach - I agree, running is starting to feel great.  I get the "runner's high" thing now... oh wait, maybe that was my inhaler... lol.

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

It has been a couple of days since anyone has dropped a note so here is my update. Today I got out and ran my 3 mile route. I did some walking but ran most of it. It was about 50 degrees out today and no rain. Next Saturday is the Monster Run 5K here in my area.  Looking forward to the excitement.  Stopped at a running store and bought two running shirts and a jacket to go over them. The guy at the shop was very helpful and made me try everything on to make it fit well.  He had some advice for running in the cold and layers.  Found out there is a 5K a month from now that is a fundraiser for Christmas toys.  Sorta like toys for tots.   Sounds like fun.

How the heck is everyone else doing?

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

I can FINALLY get on here! Man it is getting frustrating!

Lula- I too got a running shirt- I have to be able to use it as it has been a week of RAIN! But starting Monday I am begining the "hour runner" program- come hell or high water- so I'll get to wear my new shirt and ear muffs!

I love that your run is a toys for tots thing- what a great idea.

Do you feel ready for your run? Maybe we never really feel "ready". I know once you get there you will find endurance you never knew you had I can't WAIT to hear how it goes!

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Lula--good luck next weekend. You won't believe the feeling you get when you line up with all the other runners and the energy you'll feel just being there. You're going to do great.

Marci -- great to see you on. I didn't run three times this week, only two. My knees were really sore.

Today I ran 36 minutes through the woods and around the perimeter of this public park that used to be a monastary. The leaves are changing and falling and it's just so beautiful. I bought a couple of running shirts --Russell Athletic-- at the local salvage store for $4.99 a piece last week and I love running in them. Or is it that I love NOT running in cotton t-shirts!!  I felt really good doing my run today and I hope tomorrow my knees don't ache.

Keep on truckin' everybody and don't forget to check in and let us know how you're doing!!

Jason

Thanks Marci and Jason for the words of encouragement.   That is a great idea about the reuse stores for running clothes.   May be a bit less expensive there.

Have a great day everyone.

Re: Couch to 5K, starting tomorrow 8/25---Anyone else?

Hi to all!   This past week I've been fighting a fever and chills.   Didn't run...  Yesterday I felt much better, so today I will get up and run week 6 again - which is where I left off.  Everything seems to get in my way lately - company staying for a few nights; sickness; the dog followed me up the road after getting out the week before last - and then I had to bring him back to the house, and got distracted after that..   I've gotta make this a priority.

I'm envious of you all who have pretty fall leaves to run in!   I miss that.   The desert here is still in the 90's every afternoon...

Gomommy and LulaB - you'll do great on your first 5K!
