What to eat after a workout

I am fairly new to running- well- very new- been doing it 3 weeks.

I try and work out between breakfast and lunch so that i'm not starving and not full.

I am working out to mainly just get in shape- I would love to loose that extra 5-10 lbs but that is not the main reason i am working out. I was wondering what the best foods are to eat after a work out.

Personal preference nothing official.  I like to eat a banana or some other fruit.  I will drink a bottle of "gatoraid" or similar beverage if I don't have any fruit.  Has not seemed to present a weight gain problem for me.

I like a little PBJ and a glass of chocolate milk. I can't stomach some of these other things people on here because i am a picky eater, but those things work for me.

Re: What to eat after a workout

I usually run before breakfast so when I come back I throw some 1% milk (soymilk works just as well), a banana, and some frozen mango in the blender and make a shake. Sometimes I use chocolate milk and it is so good. I have that and some oatmeal for breakfast and it's great. If you're not running long distances you don't have to have a huge post-run snack, but something that combines a little bit of sugar and some protein is good. Chocolate milk works very well for this.
