how to cancel active.com

If you are thinking of joining Active.com you should be aware that they take your credit card and save it with no way for you to delete it from their system and make it as difficult as possible to cancel. I had to learn from this forum by searching for how to do it that you must call and be on hold forever before you get connected to some distant call center where they take forever to find your membership and cancel it. Based upon the low level of service and their hiding how to cancel from users, I can only assume they would ignore email requests to cancel.
If you are not a member, I would recommend that you do NOT join ever.
I'm sorry it took so long for you to get someone to help you. Just to note, if you guys ever need help with issues like this in the future, you can always PM me or @reply our team for help. Here's some more info about Active Advantage Memberships

This is ridiculous, there is NO clear way to cancel your membership. How sad that this company has to sneak around just to get a lousy $60 out of people. Nowhere on the website it there a "cancel" button. And if there is, please provide me the direct link to cancel the membership.
I'm trying to cancel right now and ran across this post... I was really hoping for a last reply that said, "No, wait, we have a link HERE". I guess I have to go sit on hold for a while.
I just called 1.877.228.4881 and got my account cancelled in less than 5 minutes. The guy I spoke to was nice - did not ask any questions or giving me a hard time. It was not a bad experience at all. The hardest part was really finding the phone number. Once I got that, it was a breeze.
this is baloney! i havent used this active bs crap in years and i just found out my card has been getting charged. obviously this is happening to a lot of people. im most certain there is a way to bring a lawsuit against them.
I don't recall ever giving a credit card number. I have not been on in a very long time. I thought the membership was free. but If you wanted the extra membership that cost money. Now I am confused. I looked at my information and it doesn't show a credit card..any thoughts?
It is a shady scam.
I have been on hold for 13 minutes now, and they are so shady, that the music they play gets intentionally loud and soft, with bursts of static, and intentional clicking sounds that makes it unbearable to listen, even on speakerphone beside you as try to pass the time while they hope to get you to hang up.
16 minutes later. It turns out that my Credit Card was charged a $10 and it was because I made an online donation to a friend's hospital, so if your charge is NOT $49 or $59, you may want to reflect upon any online donations you may have made.
But based on what I have read, and on my Hold experience, it sounds like a total scam. Good luck all.

I agree I had no idea there was a charge. I did one event with them and paid for that. I didn't realize just to be ont he website cost money as well and I was never notified that if I didn't cancel soon I was going to be charged. I only have one job right now. This company should be ashamed of themselves.
The website is free to use. You only get charged if you signed up for extra membership or training plans or whatever. Just registering and paying online for a race doesn't mean you will get charged additionally.

I agree, it was really easy to cancel. The wait on hold was long and I could hardly stand to listen to the sounds, but once I was connected to a rep, I asked to cancel my membership and did so and said the charge would be reversed and that was it. I was expecting to have to campaign for my money, but I didn't need to at all.
Same thing happened to me...saw a charge for 59.95 due to an automated renewal of my annual membership. Called up, was on hold for a little bit, but once an agent picked up, she cancelled the membership and gave me a full refund, no questions asked...she couldn't have been any nicer. It really wasn't an issue.
Just a word of caution to the quick clickers. There is an option for "free trial" membership at the bottom of an event registration page that is defaulted to checked. This free trial signs you up for automatic renewal after a period of time.
Had to wait for 30 mins. So be ready for that..
E-mail your request to support@active.com and activeadvantage@active.com and phrase your cancellation request as follows:
"Cancel my account with Activeadvantage (aka Active) and DO NOT charge my credit card after the next billing cycle. This e-mail constitutes a formal request to discontinue all charges against my credit card account. Future charges will be considered fraudulant and legal action will be pursued."
You will receive a system-generated response (as is the norm) saying "Thank you for contacting Active.com! We have received your e-mail" This auto-generated reply constitutes acknowledgement of your request.
A little too heavy-handed perhaps but it worked.
