Why did Garmin make a smartphone?

I know we like Garmin for their GPS watches but the new Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60 seems kind of pointless with the way the iPhone and other smartphones are already dominating the market. I'm sure the GPS is top-notch, but compared to the iPhone GPS apps, is there really any advantage? Plus, there's rumor Apple is acquiring their own map company to ditance themselves from googlemaps.

Interesting, but I agree, long term it doesn't make much business sense to me.
