Re: Are you over fifty and doing the C25k?

Hi there... I'm still around. I was feeling sorry for myself that I was having difficulty doing Week 3, so I repeated it last week. I'm happy to report that I've gotten past that. This morning we started W4D1: a beautiful morning, 66 degrees at 6am. I am very proud of myself that I was able to do the 5 min runs!!! I agree with allgirlsdad, the support on the board is very helpful.

Re: Are you over fifty and doing the C25k?

Glad to hear everyone is still out there and plugging away!  Disneygal2, I presume the marine layer cloud cover holds the temp down enough to make it bearable this time of year.  I'm afraid if we had any marine cloud cover here (in Louisiana) it might be tinged with oil .

I'm just reminding myself each day that I can do it...I can do it...I can do it!!   Remembering a line from an old song..."feets don't fail me now!"

Re: Are you over fifty and doing the C25k?

Its been real tough to be enthusiastic about doing any long runs in this heat. I'm a whiner and only start my runs in the early morning while the temps are still in the mid-70s, and humid.  I psyched myself out this week and skipped running for a few days because of high AM temps.  But I went out today and did 6 miles anyway at 15mm pace.  On longer run days, I bring a water bottle in the back on a waist belt, plus my handheld bottle, and use most of it to stay hydrated. It still zaps the strength out of me though, and when I get home I'm ready for either a nap or a plunge in the pool.

I did a 10 mi run last week, but it was tough in the heat and I'm supposed to try 11 miles next week. 10 day weather forecast shows the same weather & temps every day. Damm!

Ditto...you can do this.  Welcome to the crowd!

Finished W5D2 this morning.  The weather here in North Louisiana was MUCH better this morning.  Lower humidity, almost felt like a fall morning in comparison to the last few weeks.  Made todays run seem like a breeze...

Re: Are you over fifty and doing the C25k?

    Jess,

I hope to see you at the Disneyland Half Marathon! I'm 50 and ran the Disney Marathon this past January in the freezing cold to celebrate the beginning of this decade for me. I love Disney running and am signed up for the 2011 Goofy Challenge! It's all about the bling you know! For the DL 1/2, I'll get two medals - the 1/2 and also the coast to coast (C2C) medal. For the Goofy Challenge, I'll get the Donald 1/2 medal, the Mickey full medal and a Goofy medal. BTW, I'm also an annual pass holder at WDW .

Now, if there was only a community for Disney Running here...

    Tom

Re: Are you over fifty and doing the C25k?

LynnHope - You go girl you can do it!! I personally repeated W4 and W5 and I feel better for it, stronger.  So I second Nancy's advice all the way.

I was repeating W5 this week and on Tuesday I was supposed to run D1 but I couldn't find that podcast so I ran D2.  This morning I set out to do D3 using a podcast for the warmup, then I had put two songs on my phone that equalled about 21:43 minutes.  ZZ Top's Manic Mechanic and Iron Butterfly's Ina Gadda Davida .  I did good till about the last 2 minutes....but I'm calling it a win.  I think I will run it again on the TM Saturday.  I haven't tried it on the TM yet.  I plan on starting W6 on Tuesday.

I ran across this really good runner's motivational list.  I might have to put it on my frig.

FitPhyl - I find reading many different threads gives you all kinds of helpful information.

Allgirlsdad - I bet your daughters are proud of you.

Re: Are you over fifty and doing the C25k?

Melinda - thanks for a terrific link!  I passed it on to some friends who are training for a half marathon with me and the reaction was always the same:  "Boy!  Did I need THAT!"

    Thanks, again.
