    Jess and Donna I started out in Ca. and then Fl. and moved to Mi. from Las Vegas(Long Story). This is the first Cold Climate I ever lived in and while I like Mi. I don't like this cold weather. It was 38 this morning and it really makes it hard for me to get out and run, if I don't do it first thing then I end up not doing it at all.

    If you guys every get back this way give me a shout.

    Hi everyone,

     

    The weather here in NC is beautiful today...I hope it's nice where you are too.

     

    Yesterday my husband and I started week 2 day 1 of the Couch to 5K..after being on Week 1 for three weeks.  It went great for me because I took some of the advice I read here and slowed down--not that I was going that fast to begin with--but I did slow down and I relaxed, pictured myself running great...and sure enough I could run the 90 second intervals fairly easily.  I jumped out of bed, into my running clothes and shoes, ate my Access Bar, did some stretches and got right out there. Very fun for me. 

     

    I enjoy reading the experiences of you all here.

    hey Linda-- congrats!-- isn't it fantastic and amazing that making a little adjustment to the pace can have such a big effect in the "do-ability" of the workout?

     

    I experimented with pace today myself( plodding a little faster-)

    --- and I am also working on visualizing myself as a runner--instead of the "waddler" an innocent bystander might likely see!

    So I'm just finishing week 6 but will be doing my first 5K this weekend. I tried out the course last weekend and was bummed by how much harder it is to run out there in the world vs treadmill. One difference I think is that my treadmill does all my pacing work for me... I just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Out on the streets I have to keep adjusting pace. Anyone have any tips/tricks. I have downloaded a podrunner at appropriate pace but haven't tried it yet. I have another 5K planned for Thanksgiving so this first one is just for the experience and given the challenge of outside vs treadmill I've adjusted my hopes and will add an outside run per week.  Any other suggestions?

    You all are a great encouragement... Thanks for sharing.

    Martha:  I'm in the same boat as you.  I'm in Week 6, and I have a 5K this Saturday too.  I'm using it for W6D3.  I also have a race planned around Thanksgiving too.  Let's see how we both do.  I drove the race route this week - full of ups & downs, but I think I can handle it.  No iPods allowed though.

    Good luck to everyone running their first race!

     

    I ran mine last weekend on my birthday and it was awesome. I loved it so much I signed up for another this weekend...It's a Boston Marathon qualifier so there will be a lot of people there. I'm only running the 5k portion. Don't want to get full of myself. I just want to be a part of the action .  I'm only training one day this week (tomorrow) cause I don't want to overdo it. I think everything will be ok. There will be a minimum of 12,000 people since this is a 5k, 1/2 marathon, marathon, and marathon relay all together.

     

    I think this race should be a faster pace. I checked with my daughter and she said "Go for it Mom!" I'm too excited.

    I'm 56 years old, 57 in January. 255 lbs (5'8" tall) when I started C25K. Last night I finished week 6 run 1. I can actually RUN 2 miles without stopping! I began this adventure only able to run 60 seconds at a time C25KW1R1 and I thought my heart would explode! This Friday my run will be 2 1/4 miles and I know that I can do it. If an "Old fat guy" can do this anyone can! And I can! I'm planning to run a 5K on thanksgiving day, I am so excited that I just about can't stand it! I was beginning to think that I'd be fat and couch ridden the rest of my life, now I'm sure that I will be a runner, slow but a runner ..... I am a runner :-)

         Congrats John,  I finished C25K last week...but my running journey is...I hope...just beginning.  I'm on vacation with my family this week but will get in 3 days of running.  I know that you can complete the C25K program.....if I can anyone can.  I had gastric bypass surgery over a year ago and quickly got rid of numerous medical conditions which would have greatly affected my health in years to come (diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apena, acid reflux) but realized that I also needed a structured exercise program to get to better health....so....I am striving to become a runner.  The program was very challenging...especially in the first few weeks...but I now miss the days that I don't run.  I try to cross train (bicycle) a day or two each week.  You may have "been" an old fat guy...but you're not him anymore.  We become something or someone else when we convince ourselves that we are...our bodies will follow our minds....when our minds become convinced.  Congrats again!!

    How inspiring you all are.  I am 56 and will be running in my first 1/2 marathon in February.  I have been doing the Galloway method, but a little on the slower side and my longest milage so far is 6 miles. You all have really jazzed me up for the next few months.  I have three 50+ friends who are training with me, but we all run on our own schedule. I spent 10 years as an Army Nurse and ran quite a bit in my 30's, but was never inspired to run any races.  Thanks for sharing all your stories.  I can only hope that I can make that 13th mile in February.  Keep your fingers crossed, Mary
