New start?

Hi, I have a couple of friends who stared the C25K a few weeks ago and have inspired me to start.  If anyone else is just getting started, I'd appreciate starting a new encouragement group, otherwise I'll tag on behind the group that started at the end of September.  The hospital where I work has a 5K in May, and I have always wanted to run it; it would be great to actually complete this race and do well.  I am 50, so I could actually have a chance competing against other 50 year olds *smile*

I want to have fun and run without injury, and if I get fit, strong, and lose some weight that would be great too.  I don't have a scheduled plan yet, because I work 12 hour shifts 3-4 days a week, so I am going to see how it works itself out.  For now my goal is to get three days a week done and have fun.  I have to go get new sneakers tomorrow, and a head set for my ipod, because the podcasts with the music and timed intervals appeal to me, so I don't have to watch the time on a watch.  I know myself; if I am watching the time on a watch I will get discouraged with how long it seems to be dragging on, especially as the time intervals become longer.  I will begin within the next 2 days.  Anyone else game?  Laurie

Re: New start?

Hi, My name is Janice. I am starting the C2K5 this week and would love to join you. I need someone to be accountable too, to make sure I stick to it. My running days are MWF if things work out. I plan to do Pilate at home on Tu,Th,Sat. I am 42 and have never done any exercise, so I am out of shape. I need to loose more inches and very little weight. My goal is to get more in shape and tone up. My plane is to fine a 5K in my area at the beginning of the year to join.  Thanks for starting a new group.

Re: New start?
I'm in!  I've run in the past, up to 4 miles at a time, but never very consistently.  Maybe this will make a difference; maybe you guys can help keep me accountable.  I truly enjoy running but literally the only time I have to do it is at 6am before work and I am definitely not a morning person.  I need to run more consistently because I'd like to lose some weight.  So I'll start tomorrow.  Good luck all!!

Re: New start?

Hello!  I would love to join your group.  I just started with week 1, day 1 today and it felt great.   I was a "graduate" of C25K last Fall, kept it up for a couple of months, but then over the holidays, it slipped away from me and I never picked it back up.  Over the past couple of months, I have been hiking and walking a lot, but am determined to get back to running!  I also have about 15-20 lbs I'd like to lose.  I would love to be part of a supportive group!

Re: New start?
Hi All! I, too, am going to start my C5K training this week (hopefully today 10/13). I lost about 85lbs a little over a year ago and was feeling great. I had a baby girl in May so I need to get back to my exercising routine and lose that baby weight gain. My 14 year old son has also started the program although he is a week ahead of me which is great for him.

Re: New start?

Good Morning Everyone!  I did W1D1 yesterday on Monday.I started out really good, but about half way through, those 60 sec runs seem to extended to 120 sec or longer runs. But then at the end, it all seemed good. I had energy all day even thought I did not fall asleep until 3 am. I streached before and after and felt good all day. Today is the day after and I am happy to say that I am not sore at all. I am looking forward to W1D2 tomorrow.

How did you all do today that started today?

Re: New start?

Hi!  I'd like to join your group of encouragement!  I started C25K last October and completed week 7.  However, I got really sick and was unable to finish the program.  So here I am again and would like your support.

I did W1D1 last night.  Last year, I had major shin splint problems and was so sore the first week.  Today I feel great and feel like it went well last night.

Last year, I joined a group just like this and it really was a great encouragement and kept me accountable.  I hope that this group can do the same.  =)

Re: New start?

Hi everyone!

Finished CT5K Week one yesterday, On to week two tomorrow.  I like this program because I am pacing myself and not being too gung ho and getting hurt.  I used to be an avid runner and actually ran a marathon ten long years ago.  I just want to be able to run  without getting headaches and get in better shape.  I have run on and off but since having 2 kids, more off than on.  Keep up the good work everyone

Denise

PS, yes laurie I would love to do the hospital 5k in may

Re: New start?

Hi Laurie!

About me:  I'm 45, 5'9, 242 lbs, female from NE Texas.  I work fulltime, have 2 grown kiddos and 1 new granddaughter, am married - just celebrated 23 years on Oct 12....that was the day I began C25K!

After reading the posts on this thread, I can see I am the slowest beginner here.  I am doing a "pre-C25k".  After my first session of C25k Monday night, I can see I need to work up to it.  So, tonight I will be walking and adding in 15-30 seconds of jogging ever 2 minutes.  I want to start slow.  I don't want to have any injuries, shin splints, etc.  Slow and steady wins the race.

I would like to run a 5k next fall.  That may seem like a long time to some, but that's my goal.  There is a 5k in Texarkana Texas that my daughter ran when she was in High School - The Quadrangle.  I get the flyer in the mail each year and have thought I'd like to run it .... so next year I will !

I want to run for so many reasons....but mainly because I've just always wanted to.
