Just ran my first 10 miler

I am fairly new to running..about 2 years. I have been training for an 8K using the 10K training program. I have 5 weeks to go until my run. I was having such difficulty getting past the 5 miler thing....getting so discouraged.....now all of a sudden my last 2 runs, I have been able to go beyond.  I have been able to run 2 hours straight!  I am not sure if this is a fluke or al of a sudden something just kicked in.  I am going to back it back down for fear of overtraining and injury.  Is this normal?  I aways wondered how everyone was running 10 plus miles...now I can see why.  I was really just enjoying myself and kept going. Everyting was perfect, the weather, how I was was feeling, etc.

It sounds like you relaxed, maybe because of the perfect weather and feeling good and all that! You probably are experiencing improved endurance as well as learning how to pace yourself better in order to go farther. If you stay relaxed and run within yourself (at a comfortable pace that seems too slow at first), you can run forever! Well, okay, not forever. But farther than you thought.

Re: Just ran my first 10 miler...should I back off

Keep doing what you're doing.  Have a great 8K... and if you continue enjoying and feeling comfortable doing 10 milers then it might be a sign that you should consider doing a half marathon.

Good luck and let us know how you did on your 8K!

Congrats, I agree, enjoy it - and if you are running for 2 hours why not look for a 1/2 marathon in the near future? You'll love it. Good Luck and stay healthy
