GPS sports recorder

I just begain my run, and looking for a device to record my run. My friend recommends me the NIKE+, but I don't have iPod...

Does anyone use Garmin?

I found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGDweNn7vqU from internet. Does any one use this ever? The QSTAZ BT-Q1300S?

Any comments?

Re: GPS sports recorder

I've had a Garmin 305 since the beginning of the year (1/1/09), and have loved it.  I'm relatively new to running, as I have my first 1/2 marathon 1 week from today.  Having the data from the Garmin during my training has been huge, as I can see the progress I'm making in the stats themselves.  It's no doubt one of my best [significant] purchases ever.

Here's a killer review of the 305 (as well as other watches - see links on the right):  http://dcrainmaker.blogspot.com/2007/11/review-of-garmin-forerunner-305.html

Re: GPS sports recorder

I'll concur with the last poster...I have the Garmin 405. Albeit expensive...you can hook up to the Garmin site for more graphs and charts than you can imagine.

It's really a just a toy that's hardly justifyable but what can you expect for this crazed masochistic hobby so many of us enjoy.

I still write down everything in a journal and I think that it's probably the most important piece of equipment I have next to my sneakers.

I can look back on it (as I've injured myself) and can use it to self-correct some poor training choices (overtraining) and more importantly as motivation for the future.

Cheers

Re: GPS sports recorder

The Nike+ is much cheaper, no doubt.  I've never had one so can't speak to it, really.  I occasionally run with a guy who uses one, and it rarely matches the mileage my Garmin shows when we run together.  Not saying which was right or wrong - although I do have my opinions .  (In fairness, it wasn't off that much)

I'd just read up on both and decide if the extra $100 or so is worth the added features for you.  For me, it was, and I don't regret it for a second.

Good luck in your purchase, whichever you choose!

Re: GPS sports recorder

I've been using a Garmin 305 since XMas of 07 and love it. I find it hard to run without it (although I make myself every so often). I know a few others that use both the Garmin and the Nike+ and from what I can tell its the accuracy that is the biggest pro for the Garmin. The Nike+ has some cool features like the the voice that chimes in during your run, but I personally have to go with accuracy.  Either one you choose I think you will be happy. If it is just a matter of cost then go with what you can and enjoy it.

Re: GPS sports recorder

I had a heart rate monitor, but it did not show the distance, or speed. I did not want to buy another one, so I subscribed to a service on my cell phone called Bones in Motion, at http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/ba.php. It works with the GPS and records data about my walking and running. I think it is neat, esp. since I had the cell phone with me.
