1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th

Howdy y'all,

Well, I'm gonna go ahead and try to keep this one up, just in case...in case y'all want to go to the new thread started by Joe on runningahead.com, here's the link:

http://www.runningahead.com/groups/hmt/Forum

Look for us under the "1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th" thread on there.  I'll be posting on both sites for the meantime until we decide which direction to go.  Like the new site, though.  Anyways, here's the link to the end of last week's thread:

http://community.active.com/thread/75151/1-2-marathon-trainers-week-of-oct-17th/135/0

So, I saw a few race reports...good run, Lisa!  And for those who didn't hear about Snowman, he posted a new PR without almost killing himself in the Mackinac Island Half this weekend...1:36:13, and depending on where you get your stats, he finished either 3rd, 4th or 5th in age group, 26th, 27th or 28th overall!  Still impressive no matter how you slice it!

- Rob

Hey Rob!

Thanks for keeping it up over here just in case we decide to come back. Funny, I tried to respond to you here last night and as you said on the other site, the site was down for maintenance!!

I work in the IT field and implement new software for people all the time and of course, a few hiccups are to be expected at first but this is a little ridiculous.

Anyway, thanks again for keeping it up. I'll see you in one place or the other.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th

Sorry to have been MIA. Not much computer access this week. Looking forward to time to actually read what's going on with everyone!

I did run my 4 miles I made myself accountable for last week. Enjoyed it exponentially more than the four I did last Monday. Still trying to sort out why some runs are good and some are not even close. The schedule said 6 for my long run last weekend and I did seven!

Will get caught up before long. Happy running all!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th

Hey all, I signed up for the other site also. It looks pretty cool with the Garmin uploading/training also an option.Haven't posted there yet cuz I couldn't find you guys!!! I'll look again after posting this. I have also been working alot of OT, which put me in a running slump! But I finally got back out there today and ran 3.5. Felt pretty good. Still have the sore left butt cheek and the numb/tingly left calve. Rollering and icing. I have a Haunted Hustle 5k trail race on Sat. People are dressing up for it and I am trying to come up with something simple that is easy to run in. Any ideas ???  Right now all I'm coming up with is paint my face zombie/goth like and tease my hair up crazy !!:)

rnwalker-Glad it's not a stress fracture, but sorry about the no running for 2 weeks. Can you do any type of cross training?

cyndi- Nice tat!!

Happy running all!! Megan

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th

I have thought about this - and I have decided I prefer the drama free world of active - I trust the worst of the teething problems post upgrade are fixed and i`m staying put

Rob - I don`t know if you saw but you can sign yourself to get my alerts on Sunday - http://athletealert.ingnycmarathon.org/Alerts.aspx

There will also be an online race day tracker on

http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/

A lot of runners have weak hips / glutes  this leads to a whole slew of issues - adding some regular drills to strengthen your glutimus medius ( excuse me if that is not spelt correctly !! ) is a smart move !

cyndi - Love the Tat !!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th

I do prefer the features on Active better than the other site as well and will be staying here too.  I hope the others find their way back.

very angry, motivated 6.1 this morning.  Had to dig way deep within me to get off the couch...old habbits were to stay home and find my way to the refrigerator.  Then I eyed the tat....I didn't start this journey for nothing....I will endure whatever life throws at me.  So....deep breaths.  There is a great song by Jacks Mannequin called "Swim"....played it over and over on my run today.  I think I'll be playing it a lot over the next few months.

Spice...you're almost there.....I'm so excited for you!  Go get em!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th

I'm new here.  :-)  YAY!

I'm training for my first half-marathon in December.  I used to run 5K's several years ago, but stopped running.  I've found that having something to train for has kept me on track much better.

I finally hit the point where 3 miles isn't that far to run.  5K used to mean I would walk at some point.  Last night, I ran 6 miles, Sunday I ran 7, and today I'll run 3.  I somehow got off this week and will do one less run this week because of it, but I'm running a 10K on Saturday to figure out what I can expect my time to be.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th

Hi, guys,

I hope all of you are having a great week and I have to say I agree with Spice and Cyndi.  I just cannot squeeze enough time to go between both sites so I will be staying put over here.  I also have a hard time finding our group there.

Spice-  Best of luck Sunday.  I know you will do well.  I am getting Athlete Alerts for one of my friends running Sunday but if you will post your bib number, I would love to keep up with you as well.

Cyndi-Sorry about the run but I think the quote is perfect for you.  One of my favorite quotes is Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.  I think it comes from Hebrews but it is in a similar vein as yours.  When I finished my first half in Montgomery, I was just so darn proud I could do that and how far I had come.  You did great to go ahead and get out there.

Rob-  I am so sorry about the hip, man.   I am actually voluntarily taking a rest week and I am supposed to race in a 5K Saturday.  My right foot started bothering me during the 13K at Disney and I just put it down to walking at Disney so much.  Well, the heel was still sore and I ran 9 miles Monday so it was more sore later that day.  I was probably not too bright doing 9 miles the following Monday after the race.  I was really worried it might be a stress fracture but I read the quote from someone about hopping and that didn't cause pain.  Of course, the average person walking by me might have wondered about my sanity.   But I decided to try to prevent anything serious by taking a break.  It is about to drive me crazy though.

Ab-Welcome and congratulations on your great progress.  Soon you will be as addicted as the rest of us are.  Now I think nothing of 10 or 11 mile runs and in fact look forward to them.  Never thought that would happen for me.

Okay, my big news is that I am starting to work with a running coach next week.   My long-term goal is to qualify for Boston but my short-term is to run a sub 2 hour half at St. Jude's.  So I am very excited about working with someone and getting some input.  Spice, it sounded like you had positive experiences so I hope it will be the same for me.

Okay ,guys, I am signing off for the evening.

Take care,

Lisa

Lisa sounds like you have a great solid plan ! my bib no for Sunday is 43171 ! Good luck on breaking the 2 hours - I was so thrilled when I managed that in April !  I hate the group breaking up but I`m glad a few people are staying around - have you checked out the new group active set up for us ?

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Oct 25th

Hey, Spice,

No, I haven't checked out the new group yet.  I need to go back and see where the link is.   I know you have to be looking forward to Sunday.   That anticipation is so nerve-wracking to me but it also adds an edge, it seems.  Thank you for posting the bib #.  I hope you have good weather.  The weather here for my 5K looks like rain but I had a PR at Susan Komen in the rain so who knows?

Okay, I am going to go back to look at the posts now!   You must be like me staying up late tonight because you are in your taper.  I am not in a taper but as I said, a voluntarily imposed rest week that I would rather not have taken.  So here I am at the computer.

Spice- Go get them in NYC!  Have a great race.  I can't wait to see how well you do.  It is not something I ever thought I would want to do, but now I think I want to do NY more than I want to do Boston (But I would wear a red sox or Patriots hat for crowd "support")
