    Re: First 5k time...

33:49 -  I was on a training program to increase running time and at the time, my intervals were to run 1 minute and walk 2 minutes.  Was very pleased with this time.

    Re: First 5k time...

My first 5K was just back in July.  Finished in 37:53: however it could have been a few minutes better.  It was my first race and the finish line was not clearly marked.  When i came around from where we started there was no finish line.  I knew I was a little slow, so just assumed they turned off the clock.  so I proceed to join the crowd and get some water.  My friend came running over to me yelling "you didn't cross the finish line".  So i drop my water and ran through.  They had it tucked away in the parking lot...ahh hello??  So now I make sure i know where the finish line is.  Just ran my 3rd 5k over the weekend and finished in 0:30:00 exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

40:42 for the first, 37:14 on the second, can't wait to do the third!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming,"WOO HOO!!! What a Ride!"

    Re: First 5k time...

My first was back on 10/25 and I did it in 33:15.  A week later I got 32:27, and this past Saturday I brought it down to 30:37.  Got 3 more over the next 5 weekends and I hope to continue to bring that time down.  Times may not sound great, but I'm 283 pounds (was over 400 back in May)... so hopefully as I lose more weight I'll be able to bring my time down more.

    Re: First 5k time...

I just ran my first 5K this past weekend.  I am 46 and haven't run in any type of race in 26 years.  But my 12 year old has taken up running and it makes more sense to join him than to watch him.  He finished in about 22 minutes.  I finished in just under 39:30 and I was happy that I was able to run the whole way - no walking.  I think my time would have been faster had I alternated walking and faster running, but I wanted to run the whole way.  I finished 7th out of 12 women in my age group.  The range of times from the first place runner to the last place runner was very large so I think that means that everyone is just out there doing their best and it doesn't really matter what that is - it's faster than everyone else who is sitting home.  I am going to try to run another 5K time and lower my time of course, but the best thing to compare it to is my own first time, not any body elses.  Does that make sense?

    Re: First 5k time...

Yesterday was my first 5k, my time was 29:30.  Maybe would have been better if I had trained on hills as big as the one I had to run yesterday!!!  I finished 5th in my age group!

Ran my 5k and got 35:35 For someone that didn't run at all 13 weeks ago, I think that's pretty darn good.

    Re: First 5k time...

At 51 and 1/2 years old, having never run in anything, I signed up for a 5k on an impulse.  With just 2 weeks of "training", I came in under 35 minutes.
