    Re: 200+ Nov 9th-Nov 15th

Well I have survived W1, Days 1 and 2 of C25K. Tomorrow is day 3. Day 1 I was wishing that the 60 minute jog was shorter and the 90 minute walk was longer. My friend (also a 200+ runner) said I should try slowing my jog down. Day 2 I tried that and felt so much better. Hoping day 3 gives me confidence to move into week 2.

I've already lost 5 pounds, but wont count that as official till the end of the week (Sunday). You are all doing so great. I'm glad to have this thread for motivation.

Amy- Youch!  I did myself a similar injury when i tried rollarblading.  Hope your knees heal quickly.

Jasmine- That sounds like a great plan.  I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Stephanie- your weight loss is amazing.  What did you do to lose so much weight?

Swaph- I think I need to post that quote at my desk at work.  They always put the treats in front of my desk!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Mr and Mrs F, I'm so excited for the big reveal tomorrow!

I ran two miles tonight - - two miles! It took my 32 minutes, which is a bit longer than the prescriber W7D3, but I felt so jubilant about it. I made it!

    Re: 200+ Nov 9th-Nov 15th

Honestly 5 years ago In October 2004 I got on the scale at a WW meeting and the scale screamed 399 pounds, I cried and vowed to never go there again. I left WW for financial reasons and started going to TOPS (take off pounds sensibly), from November 2004 until March 2008 I lost 40 pounds not the greatest speed, but I wasn't gaining either. Then in January 2008 I went through a divorce and began to really eat again and I gained back 15 of the 40 and said enough. DO something else...so I committed to a 12 step food addiction program and from March 2008 until March 2009 I lost 120 pounds, I left the 12 step program but continued to follow a lot of the tools I learned, just allowed myself some things I wasn't supposed to in the program. Anyway I went on to lose another 35 pounds from March until now. However I will be honest I didn't start running until this past May, it started because I went to a 5 k walk for diabetes, and after losing 150 pounds it took me 1 hour to walk 3 miles and I was exhausted at the end. I was embarassed, so I started excercising, I realized quite quickly that I couldn't seem to get my walking speed up, i started to run. I started running a block at a time. then 5 minutes, 10 minutes and now just 6 months later I ran my first 10k in October...in 82 minutes and my long run every week is a 10 K and I am training to do a half marathon in the spring. The transformation in these last pounds has been more profound in the excercise then just the weight loss. I can't wait to see how much quicker I will go with each pound off my body.

So to answer your question...I work at it really hard.. I try not to eat any sugar or white flour. I weigh and measure all my food and I try to keep a food journal and I workout 6 days a week, 5 of which are running,

I run (2) 4 mile days (2) 2.5 mile days (1) 6.2 mile day and a boot camp on the other day, on my 2.5 mile days sometimes I run a second time in the evening with a friend. I just look at each day as a miracle that I can run. If I had continued the way I was going I wouldn't have lived to 40 in my opinion...I am reminded every day at how blessed I am to be able to walk past the food that made me fat..I don't have to ever be that 400 pound girl again unless I choose to.

Well I ran my first 5K this morning... completed it in 29:04, and won my age division! 36-40!  Not sure how many was in the division (I'm sure not many) but I did finish 53 out of 142 total 5K runners!  i'm pretty excited about the results.  Several of us think the timing was even a little slow... Everyone with watches clocked in with faster times than the board showed!  However for a first run I was happy with it.  Three weeks to my next 5K!  I'll be shooting for something under 29 this time!  It was perfect weather... and a geat day!

Mrs. F and I both finished our 5k without walking.  My final time was 42:13, a 13:36mm pace.  Given that the course was more like a roller coaster track than the trail on which I practiced, I was tickled with the time.  I was neither last (I finished 423rd out of 445 runners) nor was first on an ambulance.  Mrs. F also did well with a time of 35:28!

All the gory details are on the blog, as usual, along with the first few usable picutres that came off our daughter's camera, and a brief video clip from a friend.  Needless to say, I'm exhausted, but our eldest daughter is having a  boy-girl party for her sweet-16 tonight, so I don't think I'm going to get much rest. I also have too much schoolwork yet to finish! Yech!, but we made it! We finished our 5k!

The surprise went well, but our runner saw my wife with her number on before the race.  I played stupid, so he didn't know I was running until after he finished.

Wow. Super congrats, Mr. & Mrs F!  The most shocking thing is that with ten kids you found not only the time to traing over these past three months but also hid it from them!

I did a foolish, foolish thing today.... I pushed, and pushed and tried to finish my 9 mile run today. I got in 8.15mi and a 13'20" average pace, but I'm paying the price. My heel is destroyed, and I'm not keeping light food down Me thinks this one is going to lead to a few days off...

    AnthonyJTa,

Ouch, dude.  That does not sound good at all.  Get in and get checked out if you are not well in the morning.  Definately remember the lesson this one taught you.  It reinforces the reminder to all of us newbies: don't try to do too much, too soon, too fast.

Yeah, I'm slowly sipping Gatorade, and water.... taking it in too fast makes me even more nauseous. I'm amazed that a marathoner can scarf a slice of pizza after 26.2

I did 7 miles last week and felt fantastic... the body kinda gave me warning signs around 7.5 mi, so I slowed it to a walk.

    ps - EXCELLENT job, Andrew.

    Re: 200+ Nov 9th-Nov 15th

Today is normally my boot camp day or I consider it more like cross training. But they had told me last week there wasn't going to be boot camp so I scheduled a run with a friend instead. My friend and I began running together in June, we (mainly because I'm slower) were at a 14 minute mile pace and the most we could do at a time was 3 miles. Well today when we got together she said do you want to do a 3 or 4.5, well I usually do either a 2.5 or 4 on my not long run days, but asked what she wanted to do and she said she'd like to try the 4.5 mile one because she needs some more runs in before our 5 k next saturday. Anyway as we were running neither of us thought we were going fast enough so we picked up the speed and added more distance assuming we hadn't actually gone the full 4.5 miles. At the end of the run, she was able to finish faster than me, we went in and mapped it out and discovered our slow run was actually 5 miles in 61 minutes, which just made my day...It meant that over the course of the last 5 months we have gotten stronger. Now I'm off to bed, tomorrow morning is my long run I've been doing 6.2 tomorrow I'm going to try 6.6 or and hour and half of running.. I have to tell you since I first started running back in May I have lost 30 pounds and it has made a huge difference in the way my body looks and obviously responds. I will be glad to finally get under 200 pounds. After being in the 300 pounds plus club for most of my adult life, and the 200 pound plus club for what seems like all of my adolescence I will be grateful to be 199 pounds anyday...YEAH
