Hi all. I couldn't find another thread about this so here goes:
During my last two runs, at about the 1.5 mile marker, I get a sharp (then steady) pain on the outside of my left ankle, starting with right at the joint and up to about 5 inches (toward the knee). It does not get better when I stop to walk.
I push myself to finish the run (3mi) with a run/walk sequence. About five minutes later (and I've taken off my shoes/socks), the pain goes away. I have really crappy shoes (Reebok something or other), but could it all be just the shoes or is it something else, or a combination? Also, I wear heels almost daily to work. Thank you all for your help.
It's time to get off my butt and get movin'.
There are several diagnostic possibilities and potential causes. Inappropriate footwear certainly could be a contributing factor. I would recommend seeing a physiotherapist for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. In the mean time, check out the following links for detailed information on choosing a shoe and one of the more common causes of the symptoms you describe:
Hope that helps and good luck,
