Mid range jumper

You see it in the pros, college and high school, the lost art of the mid range jumper. Why has this shot been neglected throughout the sport. Is it the three point line? Is it the more one on one style of play as seen in the pros? Perfecting your shot from 10-12 feet all around the basket makes you a dangerous weapon, so why is it not seen as much anymore?
It is really a lost art. I think its a combination with players now looking for dunks and long shots because of such much media exposure. Rip Hamilton would have to be only guy in past 10 years who has been a great mid-range jumpshooter. So many players now are specialists who can hit one from 25 feet but not 15.
At least you can practice your mid-range footwork when you are taking your shots. And if you don't have a basketball hoop, grab your basketball, work on your dance steps, and shoot the ball in the air to yourself.
