Your print confirmation button goes to an article, NOT the confirmation page! Otherwise registration was very easy.
Ok, I am pretty psyched about the marathon BUT Active's registration on this one was BRUTAL! It wouldn't let me register as a guest, and THEN when I tried to confirm the payment I went to a blank page with a ">" at the top... thats it! I had to hit refresh and risk a double charge to get registered. Geeze, Active! Your fees are INSANE! The least you could do is get your crap together and make the registrations WORK!
Um yeah I had no problems registering. I updated a few things and that was it. Good job active.
I had the same problem as Kirk Miller. After I put my credit card information in it went to a blank page with ">" at the top. That worried me also about being doubled charged on my credit card.
Pretty simple online procedure. Make sure to read info at the bottom of the screen so you do not get involved in an unwanted membership.
The finisher medal for the half was very nice. However, the t-shirts were a huge disappointment. Most races give away men's shirts, so I asked for a medium. However, they decided to give out women's shirts to the ladies. They were so small, it looked like a see-through baby tee. The staff refused to let any women up-size. They need to advertise this before hand, so that women will actually be able to WEAR the shirts afterward. I guess I'll give my shirt to my 10 year old niece.
So!!!! Disappointed in the shirt! When asked to chose the size on registration form, it said t-shirt - not appropriate to the shirt we were given!!!
Thanks for another great year. A few thoughts for next: (1) Introduce wave starts or something to handle the bottlenecks at turns 1 and 2 (it was rough for me in front 1/3; I can only imagine what it was like in the back); (2) enjoyed the super nice technical shirts; sounds like sizing threw off a few people, so may want to work on that. Thanks to all the crowds too.
Much improved race course from the old one. Lots of hospitality and fun. My wife had problems with the womens' shirts, so better info ahead of time on that one and sizing. Big thanks to the city of Birmingham's police for doing a great job. See ya next year.
The course was good and the weather ended up being great. I was very disappointed in the organization at the finish though. We were right in a huge group of half marathon runners that finished at the same time and were bottle-necked trying to line up and get our shirts. The staff handing out the shirts were extremely overwhelmed and everyone was frustrated. I was also disappointed that there wasn't a wave start. We ended up just about tripping over people stopping to walk before the first mile. Great food and free beer at the after party, but again, the crowd was a little overwhelming and it wasn't clear where to go for what. All in all it was a good race and a nice medal, some thought just needs to be given on how to improve managing the crowd.
Love this event!
I liked the new course-definitely less hills and my time was faster. However, I would love to see more crowd participation though! If you can arrange more cheer-leading squads, local college organizations, girl scout troops-something! It was pretty bleak on the course and the spectators on the course were so busy looking for family members they forgot to cheer for the other racers. It helps your motivation so much to have anyone cheering for you out there!
I agree boo on no t-shirt for the registration! Hats are good for guys, I guess but not for most women. Besides participants are proud to sport their T-SHIRT around town. It is great advertisement for the race too. I realize you get a finisher shirt but this is not the type of shirt you will wear when going to the grocery store ![]()
Also, at the start line, I did not see any pace signs beyond 5:30/mile. These are nice to be able to find a good spot for you to line up
The course was great. The Aid stations and water and Gu were great! The support was great! The weather was great! (considering it was forcasted to be much colder)
The after party was cool. The start was sketchy...some one just yelled "Go-Go!" no one really knew if that was the actual start.
Issues I had were nothing to speak about until the finish...The Event Planner or whomever decided to corral all of us into a teeny tiny line/fenced area like cows to pick up our shirt and or get a picture taken did a TERRIBLE JOB! Who would ever want to come to a complete stop in a huge crown after running?! Extreamly uncomfortable and claustrophobic!
