How do you stay warm in the winter?

I am looking for some good base layer clothes for skiing. I get cold easily so it has to keep me warm! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

The base layer helps regulate your body temperature by moving perspiration away from your skin. You should only use materials such as silk, merino wool or synthetic fabrics (polyester). Some of the bigger names are REI MTS, Patagonia Capilene, Polartec and CoolMax. NO COTTON! Rather than absorbing moisture, these fabrics wick perspiration away from your skin and disperse it on the outer surface of the fabic where it can then evaporate. Thermal baselayers are typically available in light, mid and expedition-weights. Choose the weight that best matches your activity and the outside temperature. Sounds like you might need expedition weight

I'm a cold wimp. That is, I get cold easily. You don't mention what kind of skiing you're doing - alpine (downhill) or nordic (classic cross-country, skate-ski, telemark).  I wear thicker layers and or more layers when alpine skiing, than I do when nordic skiing. I wear about the same number of layers (and thickness) for nordic skiing that I do for running in similar conditions. The key for me is dressing to minimize sweating, yet enough to stay warm. If I get too sweaty, any stopping makes me get cold quickly. Enjoy winter!

When I'm skiing I am a big fan of the just classic long john's but as mentioned above REI, North Face and other outdoor brands make good microfleece pants and sweatshirts that are incredibly warm.
