I am a tree surgeon and i am training for the london marathon this year, and i was wondering if there was an ideal supplement out there that would help me, as my job is quite physicly demanding and with uping the miles in training i dont want to run myself in to the ground. i am eating plenty of carbs and fruit and veg, an vitiman c, any other hints or advice would be magic. thanks
I take 3 grams of L-Arginine with some lowfat chocolate milk an hour before I run. L-Arginine is a nitic oxide booster. Nitric oxide relaxes the blood vessels making them more elastic therefore increasing blood flow. I usually feel a 5 -10% boost from this, maybe some of it is in my head, but it works for me. Also an acid buffer like phosphogen might help to raise lactic acid threshhold. CoQ10 is great for your heart health and don't forget a sound post workout meal within an hour of cessation. Lastly, get plenty of sleep, minimum is 7 hours.
For endurance I personally enjoy Endurox R4. It has the whole 4:1 carb:protein ratio which is good for endurance training. The carbs to replace the glycogen and when do extended bouts of exercise you burn up protein as well, somewhere along the lines of 3%-5% of energy usage for those that run marathons comes from protein. Also, it tastes good, has a lot of vitamins, specifically E & C, to help with the cell damage caused by free radicals during intense training (unsure how helpful that part of it really is, but it's good for the immune system at least).
Hi, 1 hour before running I take 2 Alka-Blast capsules, and right after running another 2.
