Andrea, first off, don't get discouraged, and at least try to cut yourself some slack. You are, quite literally a completely differenat woman than your were at 25. Try not to get caught up in what "used to" work. It is very possible, or even likely, that the same things won't work now.
Break out your "google foo" and look for terms like "metabolic starvation." You've probably heard of Bob Harper, the trainer from "the Biggest loser"... he wrote in one book that the single biggest issue he sees in many of his clients is a stalled metabolism. He's even developed a "Metabolism Jump start" diet that runs roughly 3000 calories a day for a week to shock those metabolism back into gear. Try and stuff in 3000 calories of chicken and salad a day, I dare you. It sucks! But it works!
As annoying as it is, (and believe me, I know it's really damn annoying) spend a week and measure and track your food diligently. Then start experimenting. Every person's body responds differently and everyone will have a different weight loss "sweet spot". Be willing to experiment and you'll find yours.
Just remember to give a solid weeek with each change. It's not easy, and I'm still 260 pounds because I fall off the wagon more than I stay on. But when I do it, I lose. My wife continues to lose. I hate it as much as anyone. Pizza, beer, soda, bread bread and more bread.. I love it! But it isn't gonna get me under 200 pounds.
