You are not too old for running. Try to keep motivated. What helps you stay motivated? I hope you do the 5k in March, even if your training expectations were not met. Kind of like the journey can be as valuable or more so than the destination. What is W1D2?
That is brilliant! I should start and end my runs at my favorite ice cream place I did eventually make it out the other day and again today- in the rain even. I am at the point where I kind of like it, and kind of don't....which is much better than hating it- so, I feel that is an accomplishment.
Today I did it. In January I ran my first 5k 37:40. Since then I have lost 40 lbs and finally broke the 30 minute barrier with a 28:20. Now I'm preparing for a half marathon in January. This time last year I was struggling to run a mile. Set short term and long term goals for yourself and don't be too hard on yourself.
Did a 5K saturday and it was a mess. within the first 1/4 mile I was having serious leg cramps and had to walk for almost a mile. then jogged a bit and picked up the pace a little at a time. My time was almost the same as last time. within a few seconds. My daughter did great, 3rd in her age group. Will try a little jogging tomorrow and hope all is well. I think I may have run too much the week before the race.
Todays jog went ok, 2 easy miles, a little achey but nothing like Saturday...massage may be a good idea, need to find a massage therapist who gives away massages to sore runners...:)....or maybe I could sneak into someones hot tub....I gues I keep doing slow easy runs with no more distance until I feel normal again.
Hi! I registered to do a 10k next November. I started a 10 day cleanse today before I begin training for the race. I am planning on walking and doing strength training as well as yoga. I would like to lose 50 lbs before I start jogging.
Someone gave me some friendly advice when I was saying the same thing, "just start running." If you have pain, back off a little. I started running at 330 lbs. Down to 272. I started with the C25K program and wasn't afraid to repeat days or weeks as needed, or even to take days off. Listen to your body and do what you can do. I would encourage you to walk 30 minutes on your off days to help build up leg muscles.
New to the forum and to running. I am a 34yo mom of 4, 223lbs/ 5'10.
I have just completed W1D2 of the C25K program. I have loved both runs, the high and sweat are amazing!!
I am really looking forward to this journey and to running a 5K in the fall of 2014.
CynceRN there are in fact massage therapist that specialize in sports massages. My daughter worked at Massage Envy and they had two therapists whose customers consisted mainly of athletes. They do wonders for you. Quite a few members of our running group have them done.

Shipo: did you miss me? LOL The weekend after my last 10K, my perfectly healthy mother woke up with wobbly legs and within 12 hours she was paralyzed from the neck down. She was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome, an auto immune issue where your immune system attacks your spinal cord and destroys your nerve endings. After two weeks in ICU and one week in regular hospital, they have transferred her to The Institute of Rehabilition and Research. If you are familiar with the Senator that was shot in the head in Arizona, Gabrielle Gifford, my mom is in the same facility she was for her rehabilitation. While her condition is not fatal it could take months if not a year for her to regain her ability to move. We are hoping for a full recovery. So that is where I have been. Pulling all nighters at the hospital because she tends to panic at night, coming home and trying to work and dealing with taking care of her house and trying to convince my extended family that my mother can no longer be the care taker for my disabled aunt and mentally challenged uncle. My aunt is with other family temporarily but my uncle is still at my mom's house and we have to check on him daily to make sure he doesn't leave the gas burners on, that he takes his medication, that he eats more than just weiners, that he has food in the house, takes a bath etc. Needless to say my life has become consumed with all of this.
But I am still running and running has been my saving grace. My Saturday morning runs with my running group are therapeutic. They are the only time I am no one but Rozette. I am not Craig's wife, Gabrielle's mom, Rosie's daughter, Rudy's sister or Rudy Sr's daughter and carry all the responsibilities that those titles hold. Nope on Saturday morning I am just Rozette training for my first marathon and getting my long run done for the week. And during the week, my short runs are just me on the trails experiencing life like everyone else, one step at a time.
If you are new to this, you will find that at the end of your program, you will have done more than just ran a 5K, you will discovered a whole new you. Welcome to the board!
