    Re: 200+ Pound Club!

Finally started this morning, 2 weeks later than planned.  Took more time to catch up on sleep post Bar than I thought.  Then there was the beginning of the school year cold I got from my son.  Just kicked that last week.  I have new and improved incentives beyond the 5k I plan to run in October.  US Army JAG has a lot of physical requirements I will need to meet in order to have a chance.  Bare minimum is 9 minute miles.  Not to mention the weight loss/body composition requirements.

So, w1d1 is done.  Tomorrow is a bike ride.  Everyday is pushups and sit ups.  See how fast I can get this "decrepit" body back in shape.

Donna, I have been having issues with my HR monitor lately, and today it didn't work (well, telling me my HR was only 38bpm). I think I need to replace the battery. I wonder if you might have gotten water in the batter compartment and that caused a problem? I'd try replacing the battery and see if that helps.

I had to cut my run short today and keep it under 45 minutes (including warmup and cool down) because I got a late start. So, I only ran 3.18 miles today. It was 88 degrees at 6am. Miserable. I'm heading off to Seattle soon for 10 days, and really looking forward to the cooler, less humid weather. I might even pack a light running jacket for early morning runs.

    Re: 200+ Pound Club!

I finished W5D1 yesterday. My pace is very slow, but my goal is to get up to running 30 minutes then start working on time and distance. One thing at a time. When my ipod app got to the end of the 3rd interval and said "begin cool down" I was surprised. For some reason I had been expecting 4 intervals. So I threw a 4th 5 minute interval on the end. It was great. I'm so glad I didn't quit at W4!

I weighed myself this morning. I've lost 12 lbs! I attribute it to Weight Watchers more than C25K, but I'm thrilled!

One thing I wanted to ask, is anyone else have shoulder pain? That's the last thing I expected from running, but my shoulder has really been bothering me for about 2 weeks. Wondering if it's running-related.

Anyway, have a great week everyone! Happy running!

    Re: 200+ Pound Club!

Just checking in to let you all know I'm still alive.  I've had little time to do anything aside from work and family.  The network at work has had some issues due to recent electrical storms, and I've had significant network outages each of the past two weekends.  My eating habits also deteriorated (grabbing what I could, when I could), and I'm feeling it.  I was supposed to run this morning, but got called in to the office just after 6 AM--it seems like it's been like that for the past two weeks!

Anyway, I need to get back out again as soon as possible.  The weather is beckoning me--so cool, so refreshing--but I didn't even have time to wet a line (fish) over the weekend.  Days like this remind me just how lazy I can get if I let myself make excuses.

It was my wife's idea--really! Okay, it helps that I need to lose the weight, too.

    Re: 200+ Pound Club!

BTW--for all you barefoot stylists out there, Mrs. F came across an article today noting how counterfeit Vibram Five Fingers are popping up all over online (and I'm assuming at flea markets, too).  They are made to look very similar to the real thing, and then are being packaged in counterfeit shipping boxes that include the real company's return address.  They learned of the frauds when unhappy customers (of the knock-offs) started returning them to the real maker.

Just another warning to only do business online with merchants you trust.

@kellyg - I started today so I'd suppose that's close enough.  I'm planning MWF runs and TR bike rides.

takebacklife, The battle is definitely in the mind.  I go through the same thing when I'm running, keep having thoughts that I can't do this, etc.  But I just counter them with: I can do this, I am doing this, I will not give up, I've got this all day long. Yes, I do talk to myself and answer....but only with my inside voice.  LOL!

I also did not want anyone see me running when I first got started.  Now I don't care who sees me.  I'm not sure when the switch happened, but it was in the first half of C25K somewhere.  I suspect that will change for you as well.  Just don't give up, you are doing a good thing for yourself.

    Re: 200+ Pound Club!

I found out about this site when I inquired about a fitness program to help me lose weight. I reviewed and thought more than anything this is something I can do by myself for me time as well. I started the program on 08/14/10 and couldn't believe I acutally did it! Usually I give up, but with this I did not want to. I will complete W1D2 on Tuesday and W1D3 on Thursday. I want to be fit & 40. I just turned 38 and weigh 225lbs. I want to be at 150lbs or a size 12 by my 40th Bday. I am 5'8" so giving myself plenty of time. Wish me luck!

    Re: 200+ Pound Club!

    Hello!

I have recently discovered the joy of long distance running. I am 43 and have never intentionally ran more than 2 mile. In highschool I played football and baseball. After school, I began martial arts when I entered the Michigan Department of Corrections. My running style was for short quick bursts which help in fighting and being able to run to the rescue of intended victims.

Since I left the MDOC in 5/1995, I have not been very active. I ballooned to 224 on my 5'11 frame. I found myself sucking in my gut when having pictures taken and fighting for breath my running around with the grand kids.

For my 2010 New years resolution, I decided to give myself a 44th birtday present. I decided I would lose weight and get into better health by my birthday 8/17.

I lost about 4 pounds by not eating sweets and pop. In February, my wife asked me to go on the flat-belly diet with her. I started eating 4 -400 calorie meals each day, including a MUFA (mono unsaturated fats) with every meal. I started exercising in March walking 50 minutes and running 10. I increased the amount of running per walking each week until I was just running ( about 4 weeks) AT LEAST 30 MINUTES. Since then, I average 5k every other day. I have had 1  run of 6 miles and while on vacation I was running a hour a day (about 5.5 miles),  When, I came back to Michigan July 12, I discovered the humidity would only allow me to run around 3.5 miles without dying. I got my weight down to 191  around June but have allowed it to raise to 200 again.  I have been drinking and eating foods that aren't healthy while cutting back my running time due to having to work increased hours at my shop (I run a flat-bed cutter for a book manufacturer).  My goal is to start lifting weights again while running 3.5 every day or every other day as needed. I would like to get down to a size 32 if possible. I am currently a 33-34, down from 36-38 in January.

@wideguy:  No, apparently I cannot type at 6:30 in the morning.  LOL   I just started Week 1 Day 1.  I cannot read either, because I was running 90 seconds to walking 90 seconds, but I will correct my mistake on Wednesday.  I plan on following the program and either elliptical or ride my bike on the other days.  Thanks for asking!

I'm hoping to get myself up to 5 miles by the end of the year.  If I want to meet the Army physical fitness requirements, I have a lot of work to do.
