ok SO great news...and not so great news.  I actually ran (to be read jogged very slowly) my first 3.1 miles WITHOUT WALKING.  I don't even know how it happened.  I was feeling crappy (i have been sick all weekend) and just laying on the couch when I thought I wonder if I can jog an entire mile without stopping.  So I got up and went running.  Before I knew it, It was 2.5 miles and I was like...hmmm....my breathing is good, my legs aren't too sore...i wonder if.  And so, I did it.  MY not so great news is that my time was still 51:21...but seriously...i didn't walk.  I mean, i still 236 (down from 249 when I started this program) and I am still painfully slow.  But I did it.  I am only in week 4 of the c25k program.  I am not quitting that program, but I am going to continue the intervals to keep me at 3.1 miles.  I started that as a challenge last week, and I think it has worked for me.  I am really stoked.  My goal is to run my first offical 5k in less than 50.  I think it is possible.

    Abby,

Absolutely possible!  Stick with it!  Endurance should be first priority, then work on speed afterwards.  Speed will come naturally once more weight is shed, anyways!  Personally, I had a baseline of running 3 days a week for an hour at a 13 mm for a few months before I started worrying about speed.

    ----------------------------------------------

Currently redoing C25K faster, at W2D2 and noticed a difference in my long run on Saturday.  I am doing intervials during the week, and long run on saturdays.  Went 8 miles, 5 of it was running.  I started off at a 12 mm, which is a minute faster than my usual long run pace, and did well enough, but shin splints made it so I had to walk more than I would have liked.  I've also started taking a multivitamin again, trying out megamen sport at GNC.  This leads me into the question, what does everyone do for vitamin supplements?  There is a bunch of stuff out there, curious if anyone has any success with it.

@renata ~ Bridge to 10k is just like the C25k it gets you to running 60min by the end of the 6 weeks.  I did have  a little difficulty doing the walking in between the intervals after finally being able to run 30 min straight at the end of c25k.  It starts you out running 10 min walk 1 x4 times and builds you up from there.

Thanks, Soogie. I looked it up and I also saw another one which is longer, ease into 10K. That sounds like it'll be the one I will adjust best to, it's longer, i think 10 weeks. I have no races planned, but want to be ready if one comes up. Or just want to run more, if I can.

You're right, eaglemom is inspirational, I'm sure you'll do great just like she did in her HM.

Been a bit quiet on this front.. Doc confirmed both calves are strained (level I) and both MCL's are also strained. Two weeks off running and mostly rest, ice, and advil. That ends this week.

The good news is that the diet has me down 15lbs and I'm feeling pretty good. Gonna warm up this week with a few stationary bike sessions then I think it's back to W1D1 and hope nothing breaks.

Just checking in after an extended absence which had more to do with someone losing my email notifications for this group that were my normal prodding's to come on over and see what's going on!  So happy for the fall temps here in Texas.  It has been proven true that the rough warm weather running attempts have made my fall running seem so much easier!  We are back in race mode (with temps staying below 100) and I have stuff planned out through December including a half marathon.   I some some posts about bridging from 5K to 10K.  I basically just stuck with my normal routine and added 1 mile or so each week to my long run and made it to 10k just fine.  I am currently following the Hal Higdon novice half marathon plan in order to get me to early December deadline.  So far so good.   5K on plan for this weekend and then 10K in a few more weeks per plan.  Its so crazy to think that last year around this time I was just starting C25K and now I am pushing for a half.   I have so far been basically holding off any major weight changes other than a few pounds from lower mileage during the summer.   Looking forward to reading about everyone's successes as we journey through the fall!

Wow SnackerChris! What an inspiration...losing 130 pounds in one year just by exercising and eating less. I plan to read through your blog and steal as many ideas as possible.

I started C25K today and felt great. Fall and spring running are the best times of year, not too hot, not too cool. I plan to increase my off-day walks by 15 minutes to 45 minutes starting tomorrow.

Ogr44.....There are some nice ones that you should look at. This comming weekend is the Mackinac Island Half Marathon 10k 5k. That would be a great fall run. I myself am setting my new goal at a half and hope to run the Bay Shore in Traverse City. It is held May 26 2012. They also just had a Tip of the Mit 100k relay that went across the top of upper Michigan. The Great Lakes relay is held each year as well and it runs across the state from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan in a weekend. Its a long relay and mostly trail running. Would be fun to put a Fat Person Team together!!!

OK, back again.  missed a week with injury, then one with work 70+ hours and sick, so rest of this week, my 3 mile walks.  Next week back to week one of this thing.

Funny story, I take our dog, a black lab, on walks with me.  Put a belt through her leash so my hands are free and off we go.  She really loves it if I jog becuase that is her favorite speed.  Anyhow now if I sit down and lean over to tie my walking/running shoes I have a dog head in my face telling me to hurry up.  Other shoes she ignores.  Strange animal.
