Went out this morning and did a 4.25 mile run.  This was the first run since the half on Sunday.  Boy, did my legs feel DEAD!!  I struggled through the run, following W5D2--at least for the first 2 miles. After that, things got a bit ugly--shorter runs, more mentally tough.  But, I did get the run in.  I work nights, and I sure slept well today, and woke up feeling much better ache-wise than Sunday evening/Monday.

I think I may take tomorrow as a rest day...that is, after I get in to my doctor.  I think I may have bronchitis....

Sunday we spent a loooong time in the car and I felt my right knee starting to hurt and no matter what I did I couldn't seem to get the pain to lessen so when Monday rolled around I didn't run. I felt guilty like never before and waited until Wednesday to continue on my routine. I've started picking up my pace this week and boy was I dead tired after my thirty minute run. Imagine running through sludge and that's how it felt like running! lol But I did it anyways and told myself to stay on track so one day out really put me off my stride as I really like having a routine.

Nice! I am eying lots of 5k's to do in the winter myself, there are tons of them in the boston area. I especially am looking forward to the Jan 1st hangover run. =)

hangover run sounds awesome! Where is it?

I STILL haven't run... in probably a month now.  Man I wish I could get my e-mail notifications back. Like Chris said, it really did make me feel more accountable somehow. I just had a ridiculously large portion of pasta with meat sauce ... but if this settles OK  I'll try to get out tonight for a couple miles.  If I went now it would be ugly.

So great to come back and read the last 3 pages of successes. You all continue to inspire me, even if I'm still a slug.

Hmmm very tempting... although it's a solid 90 minute drive so still not exactly a "sleep in" kind of day. You're doing the 5K or the 10K ?

I am doing the 5 most likely, I am not ready for 10k's until I shed some pounds =)

Well, still sick, buy managed to get off the couch and jog 3.5 miles.  I had to walk a little bit (less than half a mile) but it's better than nothing.  I would love to work on my speed, but as the weight comes off, I hope that will be easier.

Hi guys! Great to read so much success in this thread the last week. Futureeaglemom - congrats to you! So awesome!!

After most of last week off due to sickness, I restarted Week 7 last night. I hit a dragging point around 1.5-1.75 miles.. whew! I just tell myself to get to the two mile point, and then the last two laps I simply don't let myself give up. Sort of a "made it this far, finish it" sorta deal. Whatever I have to tell myself to shut up that dreaded voice, you know? But anyway, I did it, 2.5 miles after a week off. The good news is that my time was only two seconds slower than last week's W7D1, so it seems that the week off didn't derail me too much. D2 tomorrow night.

I also realized last night that I have inadvertently scheduled a "graduation" dinner for myself in two weeks. My brother is coming to town and we have reservations at a steakhouse for November 4, which after my sick week, should now be the end of Week 9 for me. I'll make sure to get my three days in by then and I will thoroughly enjoy that steak, let me tell you.

I am taking 2 days off before the race on Saturday in hopes my knee gets better.  It is a little sore when I start running then feels great until I start walking then it is so tender.  For the next day I walk with a limp and then by the time to run again it is bearable and the cycle continues.  I have a recertification class tonight that I am spending the day studying for so I am keeping it iced and elevated today.  I am so tempted to ask the orho doc at work but I feel like I am trying to scam a free doc visit.

@littleevo I so understand those sludge runs.  I feel like I have ran in sludge the last 2 runs.  So frustrating because in my mind I can run like a gazelle but my body is more turtlish on those days.

Hubby started the C25k last night.  So proud of him.  His problem is that he wants to jump ahead.  So did I, the few times I started it and quit.  The time I started it and stuck to the plan to the T is the time I was successful.

The trails I run at the park are one hill right after another.  Some steep and some easy but consistent.  Do you think that this is what could be bothering my knee?  I think I am going to try doing some strength training on my off days to help build my legs up and maybe that will help.

Also I signed up for a turkey trot at the park that I normally run, and it is listed as a green event on active.  What is a green event race?  Do I need to bring my own water jug so we don't waste the paper cups? I have no idea.

Hope everyone is having a good week

Have you tried hip strengthening exercises for your knees?  I just read an article (maybe Runners World?) that most knee problems stem from weak hip muscles.

    Best of luck!

Have you tried a patellar tendon strap?  My wife started using one on the knee that was bothering her and she says it made a world of difference!

I found an interesting app for the android.  I assume it's available on other phones as well.  It's "Reebok - The Promise Keeper".

When you use it, you schedule days you plan to run and preauthorize it to post to your facebook or twitter.... whether you actually do the run or not.  In other words, if you promise to run and don't do it... it posts a message to all your friends saying you failed to live up to your promises.   Whooo kinda scary... But great for accountability!

@ bbee--Ooh--that sound interesting!!  I may have to try that one this winter.  I am worried that the cold will keep me on the couch.  At least we have the Kinect--I may have to use that when the snow flies and the temps go to below zero...
