I've been thinking about starting this program for close to a year now. I'm finally healthy and the weather seems to be taking a turn for the better so I'm going to get off my butt and do it. I'm usually good for about 3 weeks then I start to loose interest so I'm looking for a motivation and support group. If anyone is interested, I would love to hear how you're doing!
Hi Michelle, my name is Margie and I am starting on 3/14/2010 also. I am a real couch potato so this is really exciting for me. I live in NE Alabama, where are you?
I'm starting then too! Hope your training goes well for you!
Hey Michelle, I have been looking at different programs and would love to have someone on the same page as me! Maybe we can help keep each other motivated :-)
Yeah! I'm glad to have found people starting at the same time. Hopefully we can keep each other motivated
I'm pretty nervous about starting tomorrow but ready to get moving. I'm wondering how to count off the 60 and 90 second intervals. Does anyone have any ideas on how they are going to do it?
This would only help if you have an iPhone, but I found a C25K app for my phone. It lets you listen to your own music and has a voice that interrupts to notify you every time you need to switch between running and walking, and back again. I think I'll have an easier time with that, rather than watching my watch.
I almost just wrote the same post as you! I'm starting w1d1 tomorrow morning. I tried once before but gave up after about 3 weeks due to lack of motivation more than anything else. I'm totally committed this time and have signed up for a 5K in May.
I'm 46, have about 40 pounds to lose and plan to become fit and trim in the coming weeks with C25K. I look foward to meeting everyone here for mutual moral support!
ps: I downloaded a C25K podcast onto my iPod. It was free. If you have an iPod, just go into your iTunes account and search on 'podrunner intervals'. The music plays in the background and the DJ tells you when to walk and when to run. The music isn't totally my cup of tea, but it's fine for background music and I'm happy to not have to be looking at my watch every 90 seconds.
I too will be starting this week but my first day of running will actually be tomorrow. I'd love to have some partners! Need someone to keep me accountable, cause I know my boyfriend won't do it. (I'm hoping to get him going with me, but I know it will take some convincing.)
I have an Ipod Touch - do you know if that C25K App for the iPhone will work on it? I just bought some new cds to run to and I'd like an app that I can use my own music with.
I used to run in high school and college but after getting a 'real job' I've put on about 40 lbs and quit working out. Time to get back to it.
It should work on the Touch as well. Just do an app search for "couch" and it will bring up a few options. I went with the one made by Alex Stankovic because he has a second app for when you're done with the C25K that gets you to a 10K. A friend and I are planning on running a 12k in August, so I'm hoping to finish the C25K and then get his 10k app. My 3 days are going to be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, so I would love to hear how everyone's first day goes, since it sounds like you are all starting a day or two before me! Good luck everyone!!!
does anyone know it they have that app for the blackberry
I'm so glad there are so many of us starting this week. I hope we can all keep each other going! Thanks for the info about the iPhone. I used a watch with a stop watch on it this morning and it worked OK. I wrapped it around my hand so it was in my palm with the button positioned so I could press it with my middle finger. Then I set the timer to go off every 30 seconds, It worked but there were a couple times when doing the walk that I couldn't remember if it was the second or third beep.
I did my first run this morning and I thought I was going to die after the first jog. In my defense the first jog was uphill:-) It did seem to get slightly easier every time after that. Even the last jog (which was up that same hill) wasn't as bad as it had been the first time. It left me feeling pretty good over all! I'm looking forward to my 2nd session on Tuesday.
Oh, I drove what I had done in the first session and it came out to 1.49 miles. Not sure if that is good or not but I'm curious to hear how everyone else does.
I was thinking of starting this week too. I started this program last summer and got to about week 7. I was sooo close to finishing and then I went on vacation....and I just got out of the routine I guess. I'm hoping to finish the program this time!
I started week one last week and am on week 2 starting tomorrow. I also got around 1.51 in that amount of time so I guess we're on the right track!
I just started c25k today, and in thinking about how the heck i was going to keep track of run/walk times, i too searched the app store. I found one for ipod touch/iphone and it is by the creator of the c25k challenge. it was $2.99, but it lets you use your own music as well as has the "trainer voice" with different settings. it worked really well!! i too went about 1.5m-- i'm starting slow, but i'd really like to get my mile time down below 10min....i'm so glad there's others starting this week too, hooray for getting off the couch and getting going!
