Newb question from experienced cyclist - saddle sores?

Ok, here's a newbie question from a longtime cyclist -- I've been riding for years... thousands and thousands of miles, touring, commuting, racing, etc, both road & mtb ...and never had a saddle sore.
All of a sudden over the past year or so I'm getting them. If that's what the are. I'm not really sure. We're talking giant, volcanic pimple like things on my upper, inner thighs ...actually much lower than i would've guessed a saddle sore would occur.
Not much has changed over the years... I actually ride fewer miles ...more 20-40 mile rides, fewer centuries ...seem to get one of these on every significant ride.
Suggestions, ideas???

what about staph infection? are they really painful....explosive like a zit? see your doctor for confirmation and to make sure it is not MRSA. you can pick it up from a dirty towel, or have it develop in conjunction with an in-grown hair. staph is a common organism that often occurs in the nose and behaves itself unless there is an opportunity to enter another part of the body and cause disease. i am sure i had a brief encounter with a couple of pustules on my chest a few years back when my son was blowing his nose in my shower towel. needless to say we had a quick education in personal hygiene and the problem was solved. hope this is helpful. good luck!
