What a great race! Lots of average Joes like me. Incredible atmosphere! I just started running in December after watching my brother finish the Rock and Roll Marathon in Las Vegas. I thought to myself I can do this too! I've been running weekly and up to the 8K. I had a nice pace and didn't stop one bit! Afterwards I didn't feel at all tired, just a blistered foot. I could have ran the Half Marathon but it was sold out! Oh well, I'll gun for that in the coming weeks. Next time I'll try for a PR.
Phenomal race. The race directors have this one down to a science. The city obviously supports the race very well. The police support was obvious and friendly! The volunteers were absolutely amazing. Plenty of nutrition stops and porta potties on the course. Loved the DJS and band on the back half. The soldiers standing to high five the racers on the base was inspirational. All in all one of the best organized races I have ever done 10/10.
WOW, What an awsome time. First race ever and I loved it. What a beautiful day it was to have such a great run. Thanks to all who made this race wonderful. Looking forward to 2011 Shamrock.
This was my first race in years.. What a blast. Already registered for the Blue Moon Wicked 10k. Look forward to next year!
Great event, will be back next year.
Awesome Race! The race was well organized and super fun! Thanks to all who made it a success, entertaining and fun to run ![]()
One of the most organized races I've ever been to! Water and porta-potties almost once a mile, so though you still had to deal with lines at the porta-potties, it was nowhere near as I've seen in some races.
The DJ entertainment was better than a lot of the bands I saw last time I was in VA Beach for the Rock n Roll half.
The finish line was great -- got a medal, a finishers hat (one I can run with!) a finisher's long-sleeve t-shirt and tons to snack on.
Thankfully, the weather was gorgeous, making the whole experience even better. And the route for the half marathon was great -- loved going into the Fort, seeing the beach and the lighthouses.
Everyone had told me this was their favorite race. I now see why.
This was my and my husband's first timed run and first half marathon...it was incredible! We had such a great time - organization was great (granted, we don't have a lot of comparison, but we wanted for nothing) and, even though this might be silly, we loved the shirts and medals. Beautiful course, great music and the volunteers were impressive and so great. Cannot gush enough!
This was my first marathon, and I was so impressed with the organization and volunteers along the course. The water stops were well staffed, the spectators were great, the finish line was wonderful! I really hope that my friends and I make this race an annual event.
Although the drastic temperature change made the marathon hurt many times over, the race itself was awesome!! The race organizers have made this a phenomenal experience. I raced with Team In Training and helped to raise over $250k for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The on track support was great (even if you didn't have the TNT coaches helping you along). I'll be back but will be doing the more manageable 1/2 marathon. My joints just can't take the full.
Great experience, and lots of fun! Will probably do the Dolphin Challenge next year to party and head out earlier; traffic in Virginia Beach is nothing to mess with!!
The only downside was the wall of walkers I'd faced from the back corral in the 8k. Do this mullet-style next time, with business (runners) up front, party (walkers) in the back!
This was my 1st Shamrock 1/2 marathon and I have to say it was great. The whole race was so organized from the packet pick up to the finish line. The volunteers were really incredible and always right there to help you out - They all seemed to know exactly what to do, when to do it and how to answer any questions we had. I was very impressed w/ the whole thing and definitely look forward to running it again.
This race was AWESOME!!! It was my 5th Half but the first one for the Shamrock!! It was very organized and I loved the trivia questions and music along the course. The best part for me was how organized the volunteers were at the finish line; having water and a banana right away was wonderful. I also loved the finisher t-shirts!!
I thought this was a great event. Virginia Beach is great and the organizers of this event did a great job. This will be an annual event for me from now on.
