I am 15yrs. old 5'9 and I weigh 157. Coaches say i'm a point / shooting guard. I've been playing rec basket since 2006. I still don't know what to do to make me an above and beyond player. I watched the movie It's More Than A Gam and after watching it I knew i wanted to be on that level of LeBron James. I've been working real hard to try and improve my game. Sometimes I would at how to shoot manuels and how to dribble and how to pass. I know I can play excellent defense. And my older brother would always yell at me and say " don't look at the manuels, just let the game come." But i'm at a disadvantage. Most people who i play against has been playing since a little kid. I see them doing tricks and all. I understand practice makes perfect but i've been practcing everyday for 1 yr and i'm still no where. I'm going to a brand new school next year. And the schedule is challenaging. So it is perfect to prove myself. I just gave up football because I love basketball and I want to take it seriously. I don't know what to do to get better. I live in the subarbs of Richmond, Virginia so there aren't that many courts and there aren't that many people to play against. Can one just tell me someway to improve my handles , shooting, passing, basketball IQ and some tips . Also how to workout correctly to be a great point or shooting guard. I want to be the best I just need some help getting there
Great post and I am glad you are reaching out for help. This is good timing and I can get you a 5-day a week basketball workout regime (and vertical regime) by the end of this weekend.
I do not charge kids money for their workouts, just prove to me you are going to really use them and work hard from there - they also come with video demos to help guide you as well as shooting charts.
They can be customized to your needs as well so we can really maximize your abilities and get you ready for next fall, please shoot me an email email@example.com to get started.

Wow, in a lot of ways you sound like me a few years ago, except you are two inches shorter and have a year more experience under your belt than me at age 15. I believe i can help you.
First and foremost, you need to find a court, not just any court either, one you can access all the time,by yourself, and no matter what. this will be your training facility(for me it was my second home)
Your brother is wrong about the manuals thing though, in fact you should be looking for more info, beyond just manuals, google, youtube will both be very helpful, look up everything you can think of any way you can do it
Never shy from a challenge, you should try to learn form/play against the best players you can find, the better they are, the better you will get. in order to get better with individual skills, you gotta practice, a lot!!!not just play games and go to practice, no by yourself, shooting drills, dribbling drills, passing drills, envision it, watch it, do it.
Work on whatever you think is a little shaky, if its athleticism, work on it, if its shooting, work on it, if its passing, work on it, if you arent sure, work on everything.
Not just internet either, on tv as well, if you have something like "On Demand" with your tv, you cand find a lot of stuff to help you there as well, you gotta look for the info, you will find it, and continue to find it. by joining IHoops, you are off to a pretty good start.
Being that i was on a similar road, if you have any specific questions i can probably help you
